My 4104 has the Michigan light assemblies front and rear. I have been giving some thought about retrofitting them to LED because the bulb sockets are in bad condition and I have to constantly fiddle with them to keep them illuminated.

I've started the project and so far have the 3 rear lights installed.

Here are a few photos of what I have done. I didn't get a photo of them installed as it was getting dark. I'll get more photos as I do the front lights.

Speaking of LED technology :
is there any published data on EMP resistance to failure when used in lighting applications such as in our coaches, both control light & interior convenience lighting ? Supply links welcome if they have actual data.

Nice work, Zim! Any water sealing issues, and, if so, how do you handle them? How many total (front and rear) of these are there? Are these only "above the windshield" (and similar in the rear)?

Electromagnetic pulse, as when an H bomb goes off in your neighborhood, will your bus still run? :-)

your suppose to duck cover & kiss your as goodbye, if I recall your propaganda films

...but allass boys there be other environments beside "the getting nuc concern" that you-all were raised in & your grand pups will still be paying interest on; yes in my world, were such application parameters are of interest in design resilience, if your really interested...
just let me create a way to make that into a bus question/answer & I shall share...

=what what is that you saying chicken little, the sky is whating??? speak up & stop quacking , I can't make you out when your quacking hysterically like that, & stop spitting duck butter all over the computer screen!!! quack.

The LED lights I used are marine water proof. ($19 each)

I had one little snafu, one of the glass lenses broke. (BUMMER) :-(
The bright side (no pun intended) is that I can get a photo of the inside as it is installed.

Here are a few photos of the lights installed, one of it illuminated. It was cloudy this morning.,..

I also retrofited the corner marker lights to LED's but use a different LED.
I also had to fabricate my own metal backplates because the orriginal ones were unuseable.

Here are a few photos of that retrofit.

I was afraid that's what was meant. Personally, I think EMP is the new t'err'izm. Just another scaaaaary thing to frighten the people with so they'll blah blah media conspiracy blah blah blah gubberment blah...

But now really, if you survived an event like that, and everything else on your bus except your clearance lights worked, would you care?

Nice work on the lights BTW.

My wife has always told me that in the event of an "EMP" attack I would be king because of all the old junk I have collected in our woods that would still run (well assuming it would run before the attack).

Oh, yeah, great job on the lights, I am impressed and jealous.

actual any MIU engine should run/ survive & operate after a repeat of the 1856 solar event that did strike earth, it was certainly not the biggest Mass Coronal Ejection (solar flare)in human history, just the biggest to be observed directly since humans began making crude direct observations, which started about 190 years back; it was one of the more "direct hits" in that time period. There are many varing factors the dictate what the ground effectS will be. Most of todays societie's electronic backbone would not have survived 1856 event.
In most nuc warfare exchanges the first warning strikes are generally under 120 kt at 500 miles up (depending on the conditions at the time, designed to disrupt electronics, not blow the window out of our conversions. So there is no need to duck , unless you are under a power line or near a line transformer, maybe. Hope these crude facts put bus matters in prospective.
I only stated that the MIU jimmy would run, that does not speak of any systems such such as containing relays or diodes conected to long condutors. In short our old buses might just be the only repairable ground transport for some time if we were to get hit by the next solar sneeze any time soon. This is not the only solar storm threat that will strike us again , sometime, but it is one that does occur from time to time.

here is a link on the subject on EMP/EMF concerns http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=12507, have not had the time to examined any of it's contents yet, but I did find one link through it to your-all congressional study. Perhaps someone will be interested studying it & sharing the conclusion on how such events will effect our hobby. I will when I am able to , for a separate dedicated thread.
