Well, my new windshields from MCI arrived the other day and was getting ready to do the install, when I opened the package for the new U-channel I ordered for the job. I layed it out on the floor and it's not the right size for my rig , obviously to large, maybe fit a MC9. So I called MCI they said the items I received was a replacement for what I ordered. So has any of you MC5 owners replaced your windshield rubber and if so please tell me how you did it with these huge seals. My book numbers are 3C-27-294 (black) or 3C-27-303 (Gray) what I got was 3R-27-498 (black) Any help appreciated.... Thanks Tom | ||

I haven't yet but probably will in a year or two. They don't leak but are getting stiff, so it will only be a matter of time. No idea of how old they are but we have had the bus for almost 6 years. Hope you get an answer or two. | ||

You have to cut the length Down to Size the 9 windows are bigger do not cut it to short. Someone may know the length it should be! If not call back and talk to Tech support they can look up the Length for you. | ||

Tom You are not going to get a rubber cut to the size of your glass, It should always come to long and when you instal the windshield you compress the rubber cut it with an overlap and work it in. some put a little black windshield glue on the ends. If you cut it to size before you instal it it will shrink and be to short causeing a gap and water to get in. It mite be better for you to have a glass installer do it for you if there is one in your area. Dave L Tom I gave you advise on the wronge part this was for the rubber that goes around the glass. sorry about that. MCI is rite in selling a one size fits all piece as it is no longer cost effective to stock the diferent lengths. But if you use it cut it a little longer so it wont leak from shrinkage over time. Guys, sorry for not getting back on this topic sooner had to go out of town and just got home. Anyway, the morning I left Luke called me at home after reading my post. He has new 5A rubber that doesn't require cutting in stock. MCI will be receiving the other items at no cost to me. Ed, received the new rubber from Luke today. Got both windows complete delivered to Grants Pass, Oregon $205. The stuff looks great and is one piece. The center post section of the rubber is molded square to match the shape of the glass, with radius curves on the outside edges. They appear to be a perfect fit to the glass design. My existing rubber is one distinct piece that doesn't take into account the square portion of the glass, so it just bunches up at the center post. Then someone got very liberal with the rubber sealant trying to solve the problem. Will let you know how the install goes, in the next couple of weeks. Tom |
