I got my bus back after putting in a clutch and I have decided that the shifter needs adjustment. It seems to "bottom out" before it is all the way in 2 & 4th gear. "If" I hit it just right it will go in but that hardly ever happens . I looked at the back on the transmission and It appears to have a universal with a set screw. Is this where I adjust or is it under the floor at the front. It only has a single rod. Thanks for the help. |

Wayne, I think by your description you are looking at the clutch rod. The shifter should have two rods going to the back. 1, 2 and reverse, the other is 3 & 4. Sounds like worn linkage to me. Have you checked the remote shift tower, linkage from there to the back? I have not had the privledge to tear mine down as it works OK, but there is a lot of linkage and rods transferring motion from the front to the back. It also could be be worn shifter forks, but I still think worn/loose linkage. If you don't have the manual I can scan and send you the transmission section. Not much but disassembly and assembly, it does include the shift tower. Let me know Paul (Message edited by dreamscape on August 20, 2009) (Message edited by dreamscape on August 20, 2009) |

Another point, at the remote shift tower there are some clevises and lock nuts for adjustment. I can scan the transmission section and send it to you. Let me know |

Paul That would be great. I know there is wear because it very different from my 05 as far as feel. Joe said the transmission was in at a slight angle and he straightened it up and I am sure this changed the angle and travel of the shifter. He told me my transmission only has one rod. I will look again when I get home. The only manual I have is for a model 10. Thanks for the scan |

If you have a rod with a u-joint, then the adjustment needs done at the clevis up front. Would be best to put trans in 2nd with clevis unhooked and put shifter in second. Then adjust clevis till pin goes back in easily. This is after you check rod for fore and aft slop or play and rotating play from worn u-joints when you first unhook clevis. |

I need help getting my shifter adjusted. I have a 1964 Model 01. I resently had a clitch installed and the shifter seems to bottom out before it is in 2nd and 4th. It will still go if I het just right. Paul scanned and sent pictures but it is for a shifter with 2 rods. Mine has only one. On the back is a universal joint with a set screw on it. Is this where the adjustment is made or is it at the other end at the shifter? Hoping to save myself some work by attacking the right end. I have attached a photo of the transmission. Thanks for the help. http://home.mchsi.com/~ellenburg/shifter.htm |
