Well, I wrote an update in my last thread, but it's so far down the list... Might as well make a new topic. Insurance... Snake Farm isn't going to give us much. My options are extremely limited at this point.. I *might* be able to get $5000 from the payout, but that's still pretty iffy. Basically... I'm not going to get enough to repair the bus AND make it usable for living in for a reasonable amount of money... So, unless I can find replacement parts dirt cheap... I'm going to be forced to scrap the 4905 and just get another bus. I'd honestly prefer another 4905... I loved this one, but they're extremely difficult to locate. I wouldn't mind an MC9 I suppose, but I have no manuals on the MCI's. I only have manuals for the GMC's. So, again, it puts me in a bit of a bind. Any suggestions are welcome... If anyone knows where a 4905 or some other 40ft bus is sitting for a good reasonable price... Koko and Kit are doing well.. -Mac |

Mac I dont know what your budget is for another bus but I did a quick serch of mci's used coach invintory and they have 4 bus's between $5000 and $10000. 1 is a mc9 in orlando 2 are 102's and 1 is a 102 with no tag axle. they all say on hold sale pending but that does not mean they are sold. they are at mci.com Take care Dave L. |

Dave, Unfortunately, $5k is going to be the upper limit of what I could possibly spend on the shell. I still owe $1500 for this bus to the previous owner that must be paid off before I can get another shell as well... I'd prefer one that's already been stripped and has a couple of roof mount A/C's (that work), but chances on that are slim... I need to find a privately owned coach that the owner can work with me on, because I simply don't know when the money will come (if ever, honestly)... I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place... The coach I have CAN be salvaged (I have a number of parts already thanks to many of you)... But there's a lot of things I still need to make this coach a viable salvage... Lights, wiring harness, dash, seats, windows, etc... There's a lot yet that needs to be had... At the same time, if I can find another 4905, I can use THIS one as a parts bus. Everything mechanical still works just fine... The engine starts right up without even a hesitation, smokes lightly at first then goes clear (typical Detroit)... The engine is pretty clean and no debris in the oil at all. So, even if I found a coach with a blown engine or tranny for dirt cheap, I could still do an engine or tranny swap. Because I already have numerous parts for the 4905 I have, I'd prefer to find another 4905 that I can use these parts on... But obviously, that's going to be tough to do, since there are so few of them left... But at this point, all I have is time, so... I'll keep looking until the right one pops up at the right time. Also, I want to (again) thank everyone for your support... Whether you sent parts, donations or just a kind word, it's appreciated... Hopefully one day, I'll be able to repay the kindness to someone as you've all given to me so willingly... -Mac |

You're off by 1. There were 331 of the 4905 for the year. I haven't entirely given up hope... But it's time to start being realistic. I know there are 4905's out there for other years in good numbers... I'd prefer another 4905. Even though I only had this one home less than a month, I loved it... And she'll make a good parts bus if I find the right one... Or even vice-versa... I don't know yet... We'll just have to wait and see what happens... -Mac |

Mac - I know a guy - in Maryland - has a GMC bus. In fact, I took my tanks and toilet out of her. She's just sitting now, but ran great (back in April) and is completely stripped out, ready for conversion and already registered as an RV. She's not a 'Buffalo' (is that the same as a 4905?) but she's a nice looking bus. This guy had big plans for her (a 'party' bus) but I doubt he'll actually do anything (he's got at least 30 other buses.) I won't say what he paid, but bet you could nick it for well under 5 grand. Also know a guy bought a 'Buffalo' (is that the same as 4905?) from a friend of mine. I've not seen this one run, but know it was delivered to Delaware (driven from Maryland) not long ago and and looks pretty nice. Again, I won't divulge the price, but bet it would be within your budget. FWIW. Nellie Wilson

Sorry Mac - Been too long since I played this BNO game. Couldn't delete that last post (with all the gibberish at the bottom) and posted another to the wrong thread. Ye Gads!! As Howard might say, "I'm an idiot." Nellie |

Nellie, Didn't even notice the 'gibberish' until you said something about it in the next post... One of the very (very) few luxuries of being dyslexic... You learn to ignore that which can't be read! lol ---- David, I saw that one... It's in Canada, however... A bit further than I'd be willing to travel to get it. And, I'm ok... Just really depressed over this situation... But hopefully it'll get better eventually. ---- John... Would you mind emailing me some pix and details about the coach? wiredfreak _at_ gmail.com ---- -Mac |

mcGYVER...a little bit of bus shoping therapy often gives me something to build "undepression" around, even if it is not practical or possilbe to purchase at the moment. Kind of like the hope we create when one checks the lotto numbers, only the process is much longer lasting, much better "make believe" effect. Busnuts affliction last forever, so it is (is it) not so strange that converting & remanufacturing one so take much time ? Try penning a happy face on your temporary poly windshield and see if that doesn't help every time you look at that poor old bus. |

Nellie, To answer your question about the Buffalo... The picture on the left is a Buffalo and the picture on the right is a Buffalo. Clearly, you can see that they are not the same as a 4905. HTH. Ian www.busnut.com |

lol, Ian... Nellie, sorry, I missed answering your Q... Yes, a 4905 was coined as a "Buffalo" because of the "hump" it had between the front driver's area, and the rear passenger area... Ian's picture of a Bison is why they were distinguished with the name... However, the 4905 was not the only coach to have this term applied. Other GMC Models were also called "Buffalo Buses"... Here's the Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Buffalo_bus -Mac |

Ian, looks like you need to diet...get off the computer and exercise man! That picture of the Buffalo was GM's first try; experimental 001. Prospective buyers wanted more passenger carrying space and cut the exhaust emissions. |
