I have gotten the parts manual and the maintenance manual for the 4104. They have almost nothing on the 671 engine. I have experience with gas engines and 4 cylinder diesels but this is a new one to me and I plan to work on it myself. Is there an engine manual out there? Any recommendations. I have read references to "de book" as the only thing I need. Being a newbie, I need to know what book is "de book"? Michael |

If you watch ebay sometimes you can get a deal. Here's an operators manual for a 71. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1874278464 |

Michael- You may want to ask a local Detroit Diesel/Allison shop if they have any such thing that you could buy or borrow. Most of those folks are pretty easy to deal with, but there are sticky ones here and there. Ray |

Michael - The Service and Maintenance Manual for the inline 6-71 engine in your 4104 is available new from your local Detroit Diesel distributor. It comes in two, 3", three-ring binders - my 8V71 manual cost me $119 with CA sales tax. They will have to order it, but it only took about three days for mine to come in. They also surface now and then on eBay, but the one mentioned earlier is the Operator's manual, not the service and maintenance one. HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |
