More often than not, they were well worn out before even getting to these shores. The British do not idly replace their equipment due to a calendar, they wring everything out of it and then some, and only then send it off for sale. Definitely a different mentality than here in the colonies! Operating controls may be unfamiliar. Some of them have "interesting" transmission controls. Some are right hand drive. Parts are difficult to get. Better if you have the right connections, either a fleet that has some here, or overseas contacts, or a parts bus or two. They are usually over-height. OK, if you don't mind the inconvenience of having the shortest route obstructed by a "low" bridge. But if you are in love with the idea, being a busnut has little to do with what is practical and everything to do with what feels good! happy coaching! buswarrior |

Rod, A very good friend of mine used to work at Cricklewood Bus garage in North-west London. He was an auto electrician but has a good knowledge of the older buses. What model do you have interest in? Email me direct if you want. Peter. |

I saw a double decker that had the Leyland diesel replaced with a DT466 International engine with an Allison auto trans. I think it was owned by a company that had movie cars. |
