clean it really well with simple green and a pot scrubber pad then first, melamine paint should work well, I haven't tried this yet in this application. It works excellent for counter tops made of arborite. A light sanding makes for better adhesion , but likely not needed on a ceiling, just get it clean & rinsed clean.

FRP is just fiber reinforced plastic, so I wouldn't use anything that's
not designed to be used on plastic surfaces.

Try whatever you finally settle on, in a closet, or hidden spot in
a cabinet, or bath first.... just to be safe. You wouldn't want an
ugly stain where it's noticeable, ehh?

ah so then is seems it is the same stuff in the MC 8 used on the ceiling, thanks McJay9. Then I would guess a few coats of melamine is a good bet, just don't do the test spot above the bed , in case it doesn't work out, the stain will get to you there. Most melamine's recommend a aklyd primer on a light sanding, and a final wipe with acetone on rags. mini rollers will spread the coat better than paintbrushes.

-I would suggest the super duper alkyd primers as they are more sticky. If your going to coat a dark color with white, you will be doing several coats , prep is the key to a lasting job.
