okay, I have this huge air filter that reside in the compartment right above my engine compartment.

This cylindrical filter is sitting on the floor of what can easily be a nice storage compartment, and I was thinking, since I have plenty of space in the engine compartment, why not reposition this air filter into the engine compartment, and creating more storage space in the AC compartment.

Of course I would have to reroute the intake and add some curves in the intake. Other than the possible heat issue (the canister should be insulated methinks) but any other caveats that I should consider?

Hey Pete, just make sure your rerouted intake doesn't end up in a spot that is pulling a vacuum as the bus goes down the road. I have seen problems with repositioned radiators even with 'scoops' on them due to the airflow or lack of airflow around that big rectangular box. Might not be an issue with air intake. Several of my semi's had a snorkle and scoop that came up over the top of the cab.

The largest and straightest route for the air to go, the easier you motor will breathe, the better power you will get. And as John said, beware of vacuum.

Most buses and trucks have the air cleaner can right next to the engine. In fact, the new DD15 has the air cleaner mounted on top of the engine. Heat is not an issue since so much air is flowing through the air cleaner, it won't get hot. Good Luck, TomC

Hi Pete,

Hey there are a lot of smaller in size and larger rated in volume air cleaners available. Look around, you can likely make some gains in both flow and filtration and save alot of space.
