Given: early 70's 4905 and MCI8. Since both use a Rockwell-Eaton front axle with the original "intergal power steering", are the power steering cylinders the same? My 4905 has a slight leak that I'm sure will not improve with age. I have an opportunity to receive a donor cylinder from an MCI8, but can find no info for an interchange. Any of you old pros out there have any solid info? Heck, I might even accept a SWAG. Cheers...JJ

My 75 MC 8 has a merritor front axle, I thought all MC 8 did in that era with two versions being used, one narrower; no comment about the external power steering cylinder and external valve being the same or different than what GM used. You might go to the merritor alvin web site and do a little research if that is the axle you have, should be a tag rivited on , in the middle in the recess of the I-beam.

Now is the time to change to full power Sheppard, while units are still available relatively cheap. I don't think the air assist has anything to do with the brand of axle, other than the arm that the cylinder tie rod attaches to.
