i was told it was a greyhound but am not sure.
just bought her from a wonderful fella who could no longer travel.she is in wonderful shape and was taken very good care of.on the ride from california to new hampshire the only problem we had was a few small air leaks and 2 burnt headlights.she now resides in my lower driveway pissing off all the neighbors... "are you going to leave that there'? "when are you going to move that"? and the best one is "i can see it from my kitchen" they even bitched when i left the interior lights on all night.

PD4106-2924 From GMC to Gulf Transportation Company
Mobile,Alabama 02/1965
Fleet number 1287.
Gulf Transportation Company is no more it was bought by Jefferson Lines in the early 1980's and Jefferson Lines did not keep any of the old routes
All that is left now is the memories.
The old shop is gone and the land it was on is now a new jail.

I would recommend that you try to appease the neighbors some if you can. Maybe show them the inside or take them for a ride. There have been many stories on this site over the years about woes of dealing with neighbors that don't appreciate looking at an rv or bus conversion in their neighborhood. Some stories end up with very unhappy rv owners before it is all over.
Otherwise, congratulations on your purchase. You'll always remember that first drive in it.Welcome to the group of us nuts!

i have no garage and 2/10th of an acre.my satelite dish is on the side of our guest house and isin someone elses yard our property is so small and we pay $8000 a year in taxes.... time to move!!

Thomas -

"Time to move." Amen, brother, that's why we get these buses - we don't have to suffer pissy neighbors. Just head down the road...

But I must be missing something? You say, "on the ride from california...the only problem we had was a few small air leaks (etc.)" but later you say, "I havent driven her yet..." How's that work?

I'm happy for you... and welcome to this rather insane gathering.

Thank you Mr Vickers! so were they a Greyhound Line?
To the best that I recall Gulf Transportation Company.
Was never part of the Greyhound Corp.
I could be wrong if so perhaps some one will recall some of the past history of Gulf Transportation Company.

FYI.
Gulf Transport was never owned by Greyhound. GT was always a railroad owned bus company, the GM & O and this continued after the merger with Illinois Central. All employees including the trucking arm, which started before the buses, were under the railroad retirement and medical plans.

GT had a nice garage in St. Louis for maintenance, near the Railroad Station, with a Northern Division Manager. He was still on this side of the grass 3 years ago, when I last spoke with him. All planned major maintenance was done in Mobile, the home office and main garage. Road failures were very uncommon at GT.

I was not aware of any pool service with anyone. GT was big into long distance charters to all over, including Alaska starting in the 1950ies. Our 4104 was their only '04 that did not see Alaska. Pressley Tours was their big St Louis account.

Reportedly, Gulf was less than happy with The 4903. This is when they turned to MCI starting with the MC 7

They sold to Jefferson who never ran a mile of revenue line service. The last GT southbound trip out of St. Louis to Mobile, ran doubled the way to Mobile ...... with lots of passengers. Doubling was a common practice. They enjoyed a good passenger per mile ratio.

All Jefferson really wanted was the charter business, mostly out of St. Louis. I know they closed the Mobile garage soon after the buy out. I do not know how long Jefferson retained the St Louis garage.

The above information: Thanks to Charles Wotring.

Hi Thomas -

I did kinda live in both (VT & QC) but now live in my bus, presently in NC but enroute to (eventually) Myrtle Beach and then down to FL.

But trying to line up some future gigs before I 'pull the pick' and set sail.

Hey, Mr J.L. Vickers: Nice job of research. Can you do this sort of thing for any bus, or is your encyclopedic knowledge confined to GMCs?

Hi Thomas –

As John mentioned, you may want to try and appease your neighbors – at least slightly!!

From past experience, I will say that pissy neighbors are no fun! If you happen to live in an HOA community, sometimes they will get on you to move the thing, but in my case, since we live in a historic neighborhood in downtown Columbus, Ohio, someone – not quite sure who, was calling the city code enforcement office along with the Victorian Village Commission and having them harass us about moving it. Although the final ruling from Code Enforcement was that it could stay given that it was tucked behind the front set-back of the house, and not really visible except to those directly across the street from us!!

Long story short, if you have a local RV storage facility close to your home, for the sake of keeping everyone happy, you may look into storing it there. Ultimately, that is what we did with ours.

Although I have to say, it was fun having all the Ohio State kids and other “friendly” neighbors stop by and ask about the old gal. We gave quite a few tours of her as well!! Even the seasoned COTA (Central Ohio Transit Authority) drivers would slow down to a near halt with their new Gillig’s as they passed just so they could check it out too!!!

Welcome to the asylum!! There’s no shortage of info here, so ask lot’s of questions!!!

Happy Travels,

Josh

I have a very large loose leaf note book with only GMC Intercity Coach information and history.
Sorry no MCI information or history.
No Eagle or Prevost information or history.

Thomas -

My deepest condolences. Losing our dog is about as bad as it gets... not only is he (or she) a beloved family member, but best friend as well.

At least he died peacefully, and not quivering and shaking with fear, knowing he was about to be 'put down.'

God! I can't even talk about it, so I can easily relate to how you're feeling right now.

God bless... both you and your pup.

Nellie

Another seldom thought of storage location maybe at a local municipal airport. Obviously, if you fly you have an in, However, if you befriend the manager, he may entertain storage on site, or if desired possibly indoor storage within a hanger. Many people are looking to subsidize their flying and monthly indoor storage money maybe of interest.
I keep mine inside with heat, and it is great.

Good Luck

Oh, BTW as bad as NH is on property taxes, that is not as bad as NJ. Been lookin' NC and Tn to escape. You would pass out on the taxes I pay on my little 6,000 square foot property on a barrier island....
I know I nearly do every three months.
