...Cummins 220 NHH series.. Wonder if it could be fuel pump or fuel supply related?

Constant drip at the connection. Turned off primary filter valve and it stopped.

Suggestions?

Thanx.

could it be leaking up line on fuel line and icking to wear you see it. If you can not see were the leak is try cleaning the fuel delivery system up with a can of break cleaner. If you have woven fuel lines they can be tricky to leak locate when wet & oily. leaky fuel lines tend to fill with air when off & make for hard starts after sitting for a few days if the line fills with air after it leaks all the fuel out. If you have a blue led flashlight , it makes diesel fuel florese for easier inspection while diagnosing the leak.

Doesn't the tach drive come off the injection pump on that engine?

JWR...yes... as I understand it.

A little background....on our recent trip to the Grand Canyon, the Tach started "acting up"....as if it needed lubrication. So, quick fix, I purchased a can of 3 in one and put most of the can in at the dash end. Most of the "jumping" around stopped, so never gave it a thought.

When I returned home, a couple of days later, the next morning there was a large "spot" on the gravel under the coach. Leak was diesel fuel. Disconnected the tach and behold, the connection was where it was leaking. After disconnect, more profuse.

Shut off the valve at the primary filter and leak stopped/slowed.

Contacted Rocky Mountain Cummins in El Paso a couple of times, but have heard nothing back. :-(

A quick check of the manual shows nothing in particular, but seems to me there must be something amiss.Would guess during the night quite a bit of fuel leakked...several drops a minute. The connection to the engine is lower than mid point...and this engine is pancake style, amidships.

I have a picture of the unit if you would like for me to send it.

Thanx for the response...and the interest in helping.

There is probably a worn seal in the drive piece.

Talked with Rocky Mountain Cummins, Mike DePew, who was referred to me by Cummins, Intl...very helpful on both the leak and my fan problem.

Best of all....he knows CROWN configurations. An encouraging word to those on this board who might need "assistance".

Bottom line...fuel pump rebuild or replacement is in order. Sent him pictures and in no time had it diagnosed.

I gave him my engine number; Believe it or not,he was able to track the "build" on it.... 46/47 years ago. Imagine !

Once I got away from the local Cummins dealers, it was pretty smooth sailing from there. They have their re-build facility in SLC Utah. The only ones that do it; however, on certain models of Cummins fuel pumps, there are re-conditioned units available. When I get it pulled tomorrow, I hope, I will send the serial number from it. That will determine whether, or not, a recon unit is available. He said this pump is "pretty common".

Fan...well, he is still working on that, but feels sure we can "solve the problem".

Pray for me ...at my age, one needs all the help they can get! :-) :-)

I do not know about the area Your in but if there are a lot of farm tractors ask a tractor shop where they send their pumps for rebuild! I have a number in the north florida area that work on just about any pump. There are also a number of shops that are online. Just a thought! Regards ,John

Pulled the fuel pump today, Not a BIG job, but boy is it going to be "fun" matching the gears when I replace it (or a replacement).

....understand, I am not a diesel mechanic....just a guy on SS who depends on God given abilities to do what is necessary to "keep goin'!

So far the guidance I'v been given by RMCummins is great....just hope it keeps on!

John Lacy...thanx for the recommend... I think I will do just that...trouble is here in the third world (NM) one never knows whether or not one is getting "good" information...:-)

I am "open" to any suggestions.

Thanx....in advance and for all previous.

Frank Allen...I NOW understand what the "PT" is all about...don't know what it stands for or what it means, but since it is part of the name "CUMMINS PT", stampted right on the pump....guess that is expalnation enuf..
