I know many of you guys will think I'm crazy.... But I had the idea to use opposing intercity bus seats for the dining room table... I have some friends with RV's [trailers no less :-(] and I found the tables to be very uncomfortable to sit at... I wanted better... comfortable seating in the living and dining areas...

I vistied what can only be descirbed as a bus grave yard yesterday and found the perfect answer. I found an 86 Wahl... the seats were in good condition and better yet, they are light weight and independant of the frames.. 4 bolts attach each seat to the frames which are easily removed leaving the individual seats free. They are high backed... light and will mount to any flat surface.

I purchased 5.. four for the dining room table which will still sit on pedastill/box for storage and one for the co-pilot seat until I get something better.

Sorry to ramble, but I thought I'd pass it on. I'll post pictures on my web site if anyone is interested. www.myappraiser.org/bus

You're no crazier than the rest of the people here. :) I'm using 2 seats from my bus's passenger days for my dinette (re-covered in cloth).

Some of the seat Mfg. had seats that would swivel , so front facing folks could swivel & face the rear to talk or play games with the folks behind.

GM even had removable tables that could be installed .
I have the mounting braket , but never saw the table.

We use the swivel seats as the reclining GM seats are legal/safe in either direction & the only seats I have sat in that were still comfortable after 14 hours in the driving seat.

Great seats are required , as in a rainy day camping , you could spend some time in them, install GREAT reading lights too.

Usually a seat that is good for riding and relaxing is tilted too far back for comfortable dinning. Making it adjustable or just tilting it a little forward might do the trick. You need to experiment. Set it up temporarily and try it out for an entire meal.

The deluxe seats have a reclining mechanism built in.

The distance George is talking about (its nice to be close to the table to eat) is taken up with a simple back pillow.

When big meals are being devoured I unfold the table to make it larger & then don't need the extra dining cushon.

I designed and built our dinette to provide comfortable seating for 4 adults, including high backs for head support, lap & shoulder safety-belts, reclining backs, both seats can face forward or aft, and of course it can be made into a bed.

I looked at a number of auto and other seats to help establish the geometry. Also federal and state regs and guidelines were reviewed for shoulder harness and lap belt attachment and placement.

I do wish I had found the seats you are referring to. I found out that the bus and trian industries did extensive resurch to determine what made a compfortable seat for long rides.

If you want to see pics of my dinette go to the files section of the gmc bus-nuts group and look for dinette by littlewind.

Hey Keith:
Great idea using comfortable seats from a scrapped coach. Not only are your recycling, you got great seats for a good price also. What color are they?

My schoolie conversion is temporarily using the school bus seats turned around at the makeshift dinette while stuff is under construction. Works ok, but not too confortable. Thanks. Henry
