Has anyone connected an LED TV to a modified sine wave inverter? The stores won't take it back if it doesn't work on the inverter so I was wondering if anyone has tried it firsthand. I have a Xantrex Marine Freedom 3000 with modified sine wave output. Thanks for any info.

Yep, i use a LED tv and a "made for the home" surround sound DVD system on an old Trace MSW inverter. It works just fine.

Thanks guys
The store wouldn't let me try one to see so the only way was to see if anyone had done it.

The current issue of Home Power Magazine(free on line) has an excellect article on stand alone inverters.

All sizes , most common makes and a good list of what will and not work on "modified sine wave" inverters and who should upgrade to real sine wave units.

A great basic primer BEFORE you buy.

Battery charger info is included.

Guess again ff

The issue you are most likely referring to is-->

"Off-Grid Inverter Buyer’s Guide
By Kelly Larson Issue: Aug/Sep 2009 (#132)
Sine wave or modified square wave? To stack or not to stack? Here’s help selecting the most appropriate inverter for your off-grid system."

This article or issue IS NOT AVAILABLE for FREE download - UNLESS you join and PAY a fee

The current issue is #133 Sep/Oct and also not available to download UNLESS you join and Pay a fee

The only issue that is available currently for free download is #127 (sometime last year)

so please GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT

They, HP,used to give away all but the current issue , but as I'm a subscriber (forever) I don't check the freebees on the webb .

For anyone that wants to be a serious boondocker a subscription would be a great way to start.

Guess folks will have to spring a couple of bucks for the issue 132 , or hit the library ,or GASP !!! actually pay to get the download.

Sorry everything in life isn't free, call BO , he will fix everything for you.

Nothing BO has done is free on the contrary it has coast us dearly in tax dollars and the value of the dollar.....but that's another thread :-)

To keep this to TV's I heard CA was looking to ban sales of TV's over a certain size because of energy consumption...sounds like an enterprising person could set up a good import business

In general, most modern electronics have a universal switching power supply, can accept a pretty wide range of Voltage, Frequency, and are usually very tolerant of power "quality" as well.

I am unaware of any switchers that can't be used on a MSW; whether universal or not. I've even seen some switchers that could be used with AC or DC, though they are not as common.

As to whether your LED tv is powered by a 'switcher' it is almost a certainty.

Nice job. Do you get any interference on the TV screen from the inverter? What is the orange thing beside the inverter?

Both regular and my new LCD TV run fine off the modified wave Trace inverter I have that I bought in 1995. The only thing that isn't as good is the microwave-hums when running and cook times are a bit longer, and the stove exhaust hood motor runs slower-but that's it. I'm going to use the Magnum 2800 for my truck conversion-pure sine wave and 2-30amp pass throughs. Good Luck, TomC
