We live in an area where we see lots of rain through the winter and occasionally the temperature goes below freezing. We don't get a lot of snow, but last year was an exception when we had a very cold, snowy December. We store our coach over the winter in a nice secure storage lot, but we don't have access to an electrical outlet. I see that several conventional motorhomes in the storage lot have tarps over them. Is there an advantage to this? Is a tarp worth the money? Do you think it will help keep moisture out, or do you think it might make it worse? Any opinions? Bryan Vancouver BC |

Thanks NH Bill The link is very interesting. The photo of your coach in the snow looks great! I also looked at the Sam's Club link and the tarp appears to have ventilation to keep out moisture. Have you checked when the winter thaw comes in? I would think that in NH that's when the moisture would be the worst. None of the other posts talked much about condensation but interesting experience with wind. Something I hadn't considered. But again, the moisture out here is relentless. We keep 6 containers of discicant crystals in the coach through the winter and pour a half inch of water out of each every month. If the tarp is going to increase my moisture problem, it wouldn't be worth it. Bryan Vancouver BC |

The marine folks have a wide variety of solar powered fans for venting the cabin, often mounted in the hatch cover. Google a few combinations of solar hatch exhaust marine fan. An excellent addition to any bus conversion, since we all leave them sit unattended and damp inside at some point. happy coaching! buswarrior |

The ventilation on that Classic Cover from Sam's is very good. There are vent channels that run the entire length of the coach on either side. The material on the sides, front and rear breaths. The the top is water proof and I don't think it does. Here in NH I did not have any moisture issues over two winters. NH Bill |

I used to build canvas covers for RVs years ago. Now it is alot cheaper to buy ready-made ones. Even with the new "breathable" materials, condensation is a problem on the inside without adequate ventilation especially living here on Canada's west coast. Another problem with the covers is the wind. Any dirt or grit under the cover will act like sandpaper on your paint job if it rubs. If you can't put up a shelter, and if you don't have any leakage problems, you might not need to cover. When I was building our first conversion, I couldn't see how I could raise the roof and skin the sides while working under a tarp. We are fortunate to have the room to put up a shop to work in so that solved our problem. Iver. |

I covered a motor home in the yard a couple of years ago. The wind blowing the tarp (and it was quite tight) scuffed the paint. I'd leave the tarp off, I store mine with a dehumidifier running, it will surprise you how much water I dump out. I have some room on the farm here with power at $75.00 a month. I live in Deroche east of Mission if you are interested. All my covered space is gone. |

I think the main reason sticks and staples motorhomes are covered in the winter is that their roofs eventually start to leak. It's one of the reasons I sold my motorhome and bought a coach. Just my opinion. DaveD

Geez David...get that coach inside out of the snow and cold. That overhead door looks a little small, but if you get a run for it, I'll bet it'll fit. |

I second that. Inhumane, treating your bus like that... Better yet, point it south and step on the go pedal. Nellie PS. Seriously, I know how much you must want to do that. Really nice bus!! |

Better yet - get out there and use it! Killington VT... The poor guys in the tour buses had to drive passangers home. We stayed an extra day till the roads were cleared. John |
