I have found some HT740 transmissions how do I know if they will work in an Eagle?

Wayne, that will work for you the numbers say it is for a Detroit Diesel , 2100 rpm and 7 inch oil pan.
So that has the shift points and torque converter for a DD up to 450 hp
Depending on the bus some 05 Eagles you need to modify the engine compartment on the drivers side not a major deal but just enough to clear takes about a hour.
If you can locate a used Stone/Bennett shifter it would make life easy for you installng
