took over 40 hours to get from NH to the falls took a wrong turn and ended up in Schenectady instead of Syracuse, that night we ran out of propane so no heat... wife wants to divorce me said she would rather sleep with a dead floater corpse than ever touch me again and this was our 3rd anniversary..got to the falls and pulled into my wife's cousins side yard, promptly went to sleep outside by myself wife slept in house wasn't even offered dinner by the cousin. woke up and went into the house to be greeted by said cousin with a bill for $200 for the electricity i was going to use over the next 10 days. i promptly packed the bus and went to cam park Niagara for $40 a night. the wife will join me here soon i hope......cant wait to get home.....bus drives like a sports car but very bumpy..... also i think i have a problem with the voltage regulator as the generator light stays on and all the bats go dead over night.

Bummer Tom...

Sounds like the makings of the trip from hell. Hope all turns out OK for all three of you. (You, Momma, & the bus...sounds to me like the inlaws need a beatdown). My wife and I have owned our 4104 for just over two years & we have yet to spend a night in it. Plenty of day trips, but still lots of bugs to work out before we camp...and even then it'll be a couple local runs. We can see some great times on the horizon though. She retires in just over a year & since I'm a self employed cabinetmaker, I'll just take on fewer jobs. Gonna drag the Harley around the country a bit and drive and ride until we can't stands it no mo'.

Good luck to you.

BTW: We're just north of Rome, NY (15-20 miles from NYS Thruway exit 32) if you need to get away...3 hours by bus. Have bus parking, free power, and cold beer...Utica Club, that is.

You talking bouncy-bumpy or harsh-bumpy? Front tire pressure?. They can be harsh over rough roads.Over inflated front tires will worsen ride. Remember that those front tires are 12 to 16 ply and aren't going to be like a car over rough spots on road. Also, worn king pins and radius rod bushings will aggravate this. Some use a base from an air ride seat that truckers have to smooth the ride.
Everyone will have a "worst trip memory" hopefully this will be the worst one for you. PS. we need to see a pic of your bus in your signature.

Hand the cousin the fuel bill for your wife's trip and tell the cousin to consider the "electric bill" paid, but that you want the change. It's obvious the trip wasn't planned with you in mind (at all), thus, it's the wife's trip... Not yours.

I'd also tell the Wife that next time she wants to "visit", the cousin can pay the bills for her trip, or that she can go alone and pay her own way..

Probably a pretty good reason I'm still alone today... It's much easier to do crazy things like own a bus when you don't have a ball & chain attached to you that doesn't share the interest... It's rare to find a woman like that... But, what do I know?

Sorry if I seem harsh, but man... Seems to me like you should grant her wish on the "dead floater corpse" thing... Just go out and find some road kill, stick it in a garbage bag, hand it to her and say "Wish Granted!"

Another thing you could do is treat yourself to a nice restaurant for dinner, leave the receipt where she'll find it pretty easily... When she starts to bitch about not being invited, politely remind her that YOU weren't invited for so much as a bowl of cold oatmeal after being forced to drag her ungrateful butt around for 40 hours. See how she likes them apples!

Prior Preperation Precludes Poor Performance.

A second propane bottle would have taken care of the heat hassle,
although in mild weather an (12V ) electric sheet works just fine.

If you will not be able to avoid visiting again , a rebuilt Watt meter like the power co uses is not that expensive.

Offer to pay 25c a KW , probably a 50% PROFIT FOR WHAT YOU ACTUALLY USE FOR THE GREDDY RELATIVES..

Better to buy her flowers and let her know your sorry for all the bad things you did on the trip. Sometimes Love and reality are not the same feelings get in the way! To me and with My wife I say Better to be (wrong)together then to be (Right) alone!

On the air bags, set the ride height and let the air bag pressure be what it is for that height. If you don't have leveling valves, your doing it manually.

For the tires, go to the website for your tires and get the correct pressure table listed by weight and save or print. Go to a truck stop and weigh each axle on your bus( about 5 or six bucks) and adjust air correctly. You'll notice a big difference.

As far as family being mean, don't take it personal, usually not worth the anger and energy you spend on it. On the bill, if they have visited you, give them a motel rate bill and thank them for revealing the opportunity to know there family and let them take the power bill out of that.

Along with what Robsedona says. There is no winning an argument with the mrs., even if you did what would be your prize? Also, sense no one is listening in an argument it doesn't matter what you say, so why not just say something nice. At least you will fill better. Say "you're absolutely right" or "yes dear" or something like that then let her have the last word because that may be what it is about anyway. good luck :=)) let' us know how it turns out.

I guess I must be one of the lucky ones to have a spouse that appreciates my eccentric behavior - like buying a motor coach!! When I get these wild ideas I think she stands back just shaking her head and chuckling most of the time...

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Good luck with the rest of the trip, Tom... Like Rob just mentioned, buy her some flowers!!!!

Your bumpy ride might not be the bus. When we went to Niagra, we went East & West across NY state on I-90. I have never experienced such a bad road. I am told that this concrete highway has the expansion joints purposefully made like steps (or downward shingles) so that the snowplows won't hit a raised joint & break something. Regardless of the reason, I thought something would fall off the bus we were jolted so bad. It felt like a 2" drop at every joint for 500 miles!!
If your highway was like that, do not judge the bus. Come south on an asphalt highway & you'll like it.
By the way, some folks use "bunk nets" to keep sleepers from falling out like you do on on a sailboat.
Don't give up. Next trip will be better.

I believe 55-60 lbs is the normal air bag pressure but you want the correct ride height as that affects handling. Someone on here can tell you the measurements and the measuring points. Expect to have a little more air here & there as all 4 corners do not have the same loading.

Tom; My condolences. Owning, driving and maintaining one of these classics can be frustrating enough without fighting an uphill battle against family. I am one of the lucky ones. When one of my wife's 3 sisters asked WHY A BUS????. She replied '"WHY NOT???" Also, not only is she willing to go to a bluegrass festivals with me, she plays her upright bass right along with me on my banjo. I am envied by many guys there whose wives either don't go along to the festivals, or make his choice of going payable in misery for the other 51 weeks of the year. Feel free to come to this board to express your frustrations first. Dr. Phil probably would not understand, either:-)

I re-read what I'd posted and it read worse than I intended. lol... I (mostly) meant what I said in jest, though I have to say that I'm the kind of guy that doesn't really put up with anyone's crap... Family or not.

But, that said... It really is hard to find a woman that appreciates and understands the madness that encompasses us as busnuts... It's an uncommon thing to find a woman that can at least tolerate the obsession...

But, with all seriousness... I would hand the cousin the fuel bill and ask to be reimbursed for it since he/she had the audacity to demand payment for electricity for a "family" visit... As for the wife... Suggest that she can ride a Greyhound back and you'll meet her there... Maybe, what you two need is some time apart to appreciate what you have...

Maybe take the time you're at the Falls as a "time-out" and just keep your distance from one another for the duration of the trip and let her come back another way? It just seems to me that you weren't treated very nicely after plastering your ass in a seat for 40 hours of driving to not even be given a plate of food for your efforts...

Just some thoughts...

My marriage is give & take - I give her what she wants & take all the crap she dishes out. :-)

Been married to the same woman for over 21 years. She is a good sport about the bus madness - as long as I don't go too far (7 buses is critical mass, 6 seems to be stable, so far anyways).

I would encourage an open minded (& understanding) attitude rather than some of the suggested ultimatums (which only seem to put you on the path to see a judge).

Good luck in salvaging the trip. Ask what she wants in the return trip – maybe shorter runs on the road broken up with strolls thru parks, small towns, malls, etc will make it easier for the passangers, especially the little one.

If the tree limb appeared to be a potential hazard and the owner failed to maintain the tree after being warned, he is responsible for resulting damage when a storm causes the limb to fall.

Just food for thought for future problems down the road. If he has more "problem" trees you need to tell him, have a witness and/or document the conversation, and then take photos before the tree/limb falls for the next claim.

Depending on the trees the next tree might cost more than $600

Wow! Now THAT'S a story. Find a few more and you can launch your own Bus Nuts reality show.

But all kidding aside, my heart goes out to you... I just endured a similar thrashing (but not, thank God, at the hands of 'relatives').

For once, I'll shut my pie-hole regarding further thoughts (though I tend to agree with Macgyver's [first] post.

Sorry things went so sour. But damn, Thomas, didn't I warn you about going up to that sh**hole?

And then - as if the trip from hell wasn't enough - a damn TREE falls on your stuff!

you have to have bad times in life to truly appreciate the good times. Hopefully, in later years, you can look back and laugh or chuckle.

i am already laughing like hell.... i have been out of the bus in town 3 times since i have been here, she leaves to go see her scum bucket family and i let her have the car. she has slept there for the last 3 nights. she was supposed to pick me up for dinner at 6 last night, didn't show until 8 i hadn't eaten all day. she brings me 2 pieces of cold pizza and 4 chicken wings.then says she wants to go back to her "white trash family" for the night. and of course we are leaving today and dollars to doughnuts we wont get across the border until 2 pm....and she will forget my $150 extension cord i left at the w/t house. yes i have issues.......

Wow, and I thought I had problems. My wife loves the bus and would like us to sell our land and house and go full timing when she retires. I am trying to talk her into keeping a "base of operation", just in case. Good luck to you Thomas, I can't even begin to relate to what it must be like to have that kind of animosity in a relationship. 30 minutes of that and one of us would be in jail.

You must be a very tolerant and loving man man, Thomas! Hate the sin; love the sinner.

In all candor...most probably I would have been long gone,,,(bus, dogs and me), over the border.

Best wishes.

WOW, I didn't realize just how good I have it.

My inlaws seldom cause friction.
My wife's mother-in-law stirs the pot, but at least it is not too often or with hostile intentions . . .

Oh, and Thomas... Make sure when she goes to visit her "family" next time that she takes no credit cards with her. It's obvious her "family" has no sense... And obviously no respect for you whatsoever.

Personally, from what you've said... She has no respect for you either. Seems to me you're just a meal ticket. I can tell you that personally... I'd boot her ass to the curb and get custody of the kid. I don't think you'd have much difficulty proving which of the two of you would provide a more suitable environment, bus or not!

we are back home took from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon to get here. we spent the night in a hotel in auburn NY and then another on the new york Vermont border as it was snowing bad. we woke up to dead batteries and had to use a 50 amp charger and liquid love to get her started. as we were at the top of a long driveway we had to let the ice melt before we could leave at noon. finally arrived at 8 pm.seems i have 3 bad house batteries that were drawing down on my starters? wife still is mad at me and the kid has been sick from the long trip and hanging around his "white trash" cousins.

Tom put your name on it only!! I know that you have feeling for her but stay ahead of it. I saw some stuff coming and made some changes and it worked out better than I expected. The main thing is to keep your chin up and don't make any hasty decisions and think before you speak. My prayers are with you thru this ordeal. PSALMS 23 says it all!!
