Getting close to retirement here and there are friends in Belgium, Holland, Argentina & Uruguay and finally in Hawaii that I'd like to spend some more time with before "it's time to get off the Bus".
With the Net we have all been able to stay in close contact for over 15 years now & I would like to meander over the roads near their residences like we used to BUT with my home under me so this time I can take ALL of the time I care to to enjoy the locale & them.
I am aware of shipping mounted to a flat rack and roll-on/roll-off shipping (& been warned about theft in both modes.
I am interested in prices, experiences and what you would do now that you didn't do the first or last time. Frankly, I have friends on Maui & The Big Island & would seriously consider staying permanently on either or both! I was also lucky enought to drive Argentine Highways 0 & 3 from the dirt road tip of Terra del Feugo (60 miles south of Ushuaia) up thru Bahia Blanca and I would love to spend a year along the Argentine Atlantic coast AND inland in the Southern Patagonia/Andes footlands. My 4106 is in great shape mechanically & parts should only be an email to Luke away (plus import & customs snaggles) All experienced advice is welcomed & appreciated up front!

About a decade ago there was an article about some folks that did this, they ended up shipping it back panicked about parts and service, probably not a problem for you.

Some of the Euros do not allow "Polished" vehicles , so a coat of easily removable paint slopped on might be required.

Some countries are also touchy about towing Toads , so it has to be driven seperiatly.

There are few campsites as we know them , a field with 5A of 240V and a water spigot is most common.
There is a "British - American" Motor home club you might Google, that should be able to help.

Jack, you can forget about Hawaii. Lived on Maui for 11 years and the only type of motorhome we ever saw was the little Toyota class c cabover camper. There is no place to put a bus on the islands. No rv parks, no state campgrounds other than tenting. You can check of course but if i remember right you are not allowed to even ship a class A into the state.

PS. any car or truck that you ship over or back has to be completely empty of all personal items. It's a liability for theft during shipping thing.

Jack -

Hawaii is absoluely wonderful! But trust me, if you're a bus guy, it ain't for you - at least not long term. You'd get rock fever in about two weeks.

And Ed is absolutely correct... if you go, leave the bus stateside (well, I guess Hawaii is "stateside" too, but you know what I mean).

That's really our (Bus Nuts) trouble, isn't it? No matter where we are, we wanna be somewhere else... a mob of collective malcontents.

(Don't nobody flame me, okay?)

There was a company selling MCI's in Maui on ebay recently, so I assume you can drive a bus there. The road to Hanna might be too curvy for a coach. It might be cheaper to lease a RV in Europe than to ship your bus.

Doug & Jack -

I think you the outfit to which you may be refering is Robert's Hawaii. They're a large tourism group located throughout the islands. I presume they are still running MCI's - at least they were when I was there about 10 years ago. For the most part, you can navigate the roads pretty easily with them, but there are some pretty good hills - especially around the volcanos on the big island.

Good Luck!

Gomer,

Just might do that. Taking the coach up to Archer for a while in early December to do some mods. Will try to look you up on the way back down to St. Pete.

Thanks,
NH Bill

I shipped my International 4070 (cab over) from Germany to the states, it was a free transport for me while in the Army, but the rust was horrible!
Put a thick coat of grease or paint on ALL exposed metal.

Interesting thread.....recession is, uhhh ...over?

Why not just buy...rent... a coach where one is going? Just my way, I guess.

Personally can't imagine considering a transport...much less doing it!
MY,have times changed!!!!!

Do it YOUR way...:-)

Hi Jack.

We run a barge service from Seattle to most of the Islands in Hawaii. We would be happy to ship your bus and theft is rarely/never an issue.

Check us out and get a quote at northlandservicesinc.com

We will also deposit your coach most any where in Alaska of your choosing should you desire.
