Somthing i have disagreed with Robt the mechanic from the begining is how the air is pulled into the coach and out thru the radiator. Our set up is similar to the Flexs in that the air is pulled in thru the roof and thru the radiator past the pulling fan and out the rear of the coach. Originally this was the only air to pass thru the radiator.
Now the sides of the "tunnel" are open to the upper enclosed part of the engine compartment. there was only one opening into this compartment before, a 12" round opening with louvers facing rearward on the upper corner of the drivers side. This fed (i always thought anyway) the oil bath aircleaner on the oposite of the upper compartment before the engine swap. Now the tunnel is open on both sides so air can be pulled in from the roof and from the original vent and another added on the curb side. The new dry filter pulls air from the lower engine compartment. I was in and out of the upper area last night (there are 2- 24" access cover plates in the rear bedroom "firewall") very annoyed at all the water coming inside the coach. I cant see any reason for the ram tunnel from the roof to be open on the sides to the upper compart. I will measure the opening on top and then the radiator dia. and see if that was his concern. I plan on getting the air intake turned and up into the upper compartment eventually/maybe.
The thing that caught my eye last night was that the original 12" vent cover has a ssquare box on the inside and the opening is on the top and covered with fine mesh screening. This puts the opening up near the top of the compartment. Is it possible this was used to pull air out? I would say no as it used to be the only feed for this compartment to the air cleaner onthe oppisite side. Very annoyed as i should have stayed more on top of this. There is a restored unit over in Hershey that maybe i could examine and i think some of the 4103's (Dallas!) might have this same set up. Any comments or info would be appreciated. It is in the upper 60's here today with the rain tapering off, so back to fixing the found leaks and measuring.
I also found some original stencils in the rear compartment GM TRK & COA DIV CHICAGO ILL. I will take a picture later and try and post picts that show what i am rambling about. ULTCN. I tried posting a pic but the file is to large.

No idea what you are talking about as I have a modern coach but I'm pretty sure you can use a IMG link from photobucket here much easier than resizing and also gives you a place to store pics away from your computer. 'll try a link to see

Sorry David, The 4102's and 4103's had the air take for the air cleaners in the top edge of the D windows on the side. The 4101's might have been different since they had the target sign on the back like the 4151 and 3751. The radiator on the 02's and 03's was the same as the 4104 on up.
I'll look around and see if I have the parts drawings of the older buses, maybe you could get some idea from that.

Thanks Dallas and Patrick i will check out the resizing after some supper. After being in and out and on the roof i know why Robert wanted more air to be available to be pulled thru the radiator. The original radiator was mounted higher and sloping rearward almost 45 degrees. Now it is almost straight up and down and the expansion tank is blocking a third of the upper intake area. I think i will block off the side areas and take her out for a run since we are having a heat wave here! When i picked her up in Aug we had slow rising temps when hill climbing and again in Sept towing the jeep in Pa in the hills. It is going to be a major pain to lean the radiator back. I would think (notice i am never saying assume! ha ha) with the radiator straight up and down there could be air flow issues meaning most of the air would be pulled in thru the top of the radiator instead of thru the whole rad top to bottom. Real scientific WAGuessing here! (Nellie, thats a WAG= wild ass guess) I am pretty sure i can make the run down to Florida towing the bikes with out any overheating problems and maybe if i get the trans cooler out of the engine cooling loop this wont matter anyway. That will have to wait for spring and i want to see some other rigs in Arcadia and how they cool their transmissions. Just throwing it up in the air. Thanks for any insight. And since i cant get anyone to BITE on the last couple of posts with ULTCN i give up. Nellie i am so dissapointed.

David, does the radiator have a shroud? If not, build one to fit as tight to the fan as practicable.
Also, do you have the full length flap across the back behind the drive tires? It will really help move the air through the engine compartment by creating a low pressure area and causing fresh air to be sucked in.

Once you have pics on photobucket click on the pic you want. when the pic comes up you will notice a black and white bocx on the left called Share This Image. the bottom line of text there starts with IMG you need to copy paste that from there to your post and then we can click and see it

I made this short video on posting pictures using Photobucket, although some information you can't use here, it might help. This board is kind of difficult for posting pics, I gave up long ago. Too much code to deal with and instructions to follow.

If you get out on the road and don't have anything to do, stop by for a cup of coffee or a BBQ

You said yours is similar to how a FLX works... Here's what I found on the FLX Owner's Group site...

FLX Cooling

From the site Flxible Owner's Group:

quote:

There is one popular bodge with which some owners report success. Since the belly pan is usually missing, and usually awkward to duplicate, some owners have elected to build an "air dam" - a full-width mudflap behind the rear wheels. This mudflap is mounted at the bottom of a full baffle designed to prevent airflow from floor to mudflap. Thus the rearward underbus airflow is directed to the sides, hopefully even aiding in the creation of a low-pressure area behind it, which will help the proper flow through the scoop, above-engine duct, and fan/shroud.
