Yesterday evening around 5pm I encountered an interesting problem.

After passing about 10 minutes, there was a loud bang followed by what the driver reported as "a large cloud of black smoke" the bus slowed down. After stomping on the pedel the bus would not go over 5 mph. I dont remember seeing any warning lights or hearing any alarms.
Seems like a transmission problem to be because the engine was left running for a while and it seemed fine. Any idea what would cause the transmission to act this way?

The vehicle was a transit bus-a orion 5. NYC transit. Drivetrain was a DD series 50 hooked to a Allison B500.

Pull the intake pipe from the air cleaner and check your turbo.
Sounds like it blew.
