Hi Doug,
I looked back through my old issues of "Bus Conversions" and Sept 2001 George Myers had a great article entitle "Tanks". Talks all about the various buy and build your own variety, how to calculate size and need, etc. In the materials section he talks about ABS plastic sheeting 1/4 inch thick. They are glued together using standard ABS plumbing cement and then built into a tight fitting plywood box. Lots of other good info in the article also. If you want I can try and scan it and send it or maybe the Bus Conversion archives will have it. Let me know although I will be "on the road" until Thanksgiving day. Good luck,

John

I just don't see the advantage to building I bought mine from http://www.rvsurplus.net/catalog/display.php?category_id=47

Paid less than $200 for an 85 gallon Fresh water tank with outlets where I needed them shipped to my office

Personally-I would suggest just buying pre-made tanks. Here in Los Angeles, I have bought from El Monte Plastics and they make fresh water tanks up to 275gal. Then they will also install the pipe fittings where you want. I used them with my 18 wheeler, and in 800,000 miles of truck driving (10 times the vibration of a bus) no failures. Good Luck, TomC

The advantage to building is that you can make the tanks the exact size you need to maximize both tank capacity and bay space.

Thanks All The reason I need to custom make mine is because I have to put the gray and black water tank( combined) just in back of the front axel and I have to go around my radiator and also incorperate the propane tanks in that space so I really need to custom build them. Ya, Gumpydog was the guy I was looking for. Thanks again. You guys are the best!

WHAT EVER YOU DO, do NOT use plumbers ABS cement to glue the ABS sheets.

I built mine using 1/4" ABS plastic. A trial glueing proved that the plumbing cement isn't strong enough.

I made my own glue with shaved ABS, Toluene and Acetone. I cut triangular pieces for all the corners and glued and screwed (small stainless). Also baffles.

None of the 4 tanks I built have plywood boxes around them. I have had trouble with one large water tank after I blew it up with high pressure filling.

Make SURE you have a vent larger than the input...mine wasn't hence the blowup!!

The tanks have been in constant use now for 12 years, but if I had to do it all over again, I would have a plastics company make them for me. I built my own to fit in specific spots, but I'm sure there are companies out there who could do the same.

ABS can also be heat welded.
