Anyone ever have any luck welding an exhaust manifold that is cracked?? Or does anyone have a left side(MCI type bus)one like this they will sell?? The right side(backside)one from a RTS transit is the same also. Thanks

Dale, where is the crack if just a bolt ear it is not hard to weld, the barrel is a different story. Pedco will have a good used one 562-944-3199. When you say left side is it the one that has a 45 degree angle or a 90 degree and what is your location I am in AZ and have both sides but shipping is a problem for me

good luck

...drill all the crack ends (not easy), heat the whole thing up with a big torch (and keep it that way while welding) use ni-rod or the modern day equivalent for cast iron. Of course you have to gouge & clean the weld to and penetrate correctly, ideal both sides of the crack if accessible. Then there is that warpage problem. It works on most cast iron manifolds, but there alloys do vary.

The crack is the whole ear is broke off behind the pipe flange. Gonna be very hard to weld. Just my luck. LOL.

Standing in front of the engine on the harmonic balancer end, the manifold will be on the right side of the engine in an MCI bus. I'm fairly sure it's the same one used on any 6v92 powered road tractor.

It's the EXACT one in the picture, but I don't have a part # and everywere that I've checked so far have asked for a part #.

I'm in Va. I'm no welder so I'm afraid to tackle trying to repair this one, but I may have to if I can't find one.

Thanks!

Dale, check Nimco or Luke on the east coast the manifold will have a casting # on the side that is all they need to get the right one for you.
The right side is the 90 degree they are the same for all top mounted turbos.FWIW they are about 150 bucks used from Pedco.

Therein lies the rub. LOL.

The casting # is in such bad shape that I cannot read it. Nimco talked like without the number they couldn't help. I wll try Luke next.

Bobby (Easter's bus) didn't have one which was disappointing. I'm only 40miles away from him.

Sawyers bus sales hasn't called back.

Luvrbus, Is pedcoengines.com the place you are talking about??

I'll keep swinging, but I haven't got the bat on the ball yet.

I had an ear break off on an 8V71 years ago and I brazed it. It was still holding when I sold the engine 4 years ago. Just heat up the manifold evenly so you don't warp it.

Bill

May have to try that, but there has to be thousands of these manifolds out there. And I thought Fishbowl parts were hard to get around here. LOL

If you would be so kind as to get me the casting # you would be a rockstar in my book.

I've got extra gaskets left over from another repower. I'm normally a Fishbowl guy like Mr Gerrie up north, so I don't have many parts for a MCI type bus.

Thank you so much for the help.

Sorry I did not think faster, but Leid diesel service , Newville Pa. 717-776-4127, has new and used engine parts, plus a macnine shop. They have a large inventory and ship parts. 8-5, M-F but lunch 12-1. Just call them, UPS picks up at their shop. Oh they are about 50 miles North of MD near I81.
