Exploring the feasibility of installing a Series 60 engine in a MC9. Has anyone done this, if so what are the pitfalls to watchout for? Cost is a factor as well as getting the proper gearing. DD says the engine's best performance is in the 1400-1650 rpm range. How was the engine and transmission installed? Not much room to work with!! Thanks for any info. |

Very simply - you've got to lengthen the bus body at the rear in order for the S-60 to fit. It's too long for a stock MC-9 engine compartment. The S-50s fit, however, if you can put up with the 4-cyl shake. MCI's solution for installing the S-60 in the 40-foot coach was to shorten the wheelbase and shrink the rearmost baggage bin. If cost is a factor and you are adding in a gear change on top of making room for the Series 60 the cheaper alternative is a 6V92TA or an 8V92TA. --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

Check out the following web site they installed a Series 60 in two different MC-9's one without stretching the coach and using the existing cooling system . The other one they stretched the coach and added a new cooling system. They show pictures of both coaches. http://www.bernhardbus.com Gary |

I am considering installing C-12 cat as an alternative due to it's smaller size and lighter weight. I probably won't do the job until I at least run the rings in on my freshly rebuilt 6V92 abd then find a buyer. |
