Len - No room for spring brakes on a 4104 or 4106 unless you cut off and reposition/weld the mounting brackets, or cut a hole in the rear baggage bin wall. FWIW & HTH. . . | ||

RJ, My understanding, though I never measured it, is that you can install standard 30-30 spring brakes on a 4104, but not on a 4106. It always looked to me that there was enough room but I did not do it before selling my bus. It looks like there is plenty of room in Austin's pictures. | ||

I have a 4104 and I put 30-30 spring cans on the rears in 1987 and just replaced them as preventative maintenance this year. They bolt right on! (Message edited by tomconnolly on December 03, 2009) | ||

David, The part is really common. I went to my local "Truck Pro" and purchased them. www.truckpro.com All you have to ask for is a "Type 24 Single Brake Chamber". I paid $30.08 per. Len, These are the front Brake chambers. I already have spring brake chambers on the rear. | ||

This is very useful. I'm doing a conversion/rebuild on my bus's brakes. My bus was built with plain cans on all 4 corners and a big lever next to the driver with a 1/2" steel rod back to a mechanical parking/emergency brake on the rear wheels (the lever on the "S-cams" on the rear has two arms on it -- one for the cans to push on and one for the mechanical emergency brake to pull on). The cans, tanks, lines, etc. on my bus were rusty and damaged (I don't know how the tanks didn't blow out). So, I'm going to have a NAmer-built air drier, then everything between there and the wheels is going to be new NAmer-made. New cans (double in the back), new tanks, new lines, new brake light switches, new valves, new push-pull parking/emerg brake valve at the driver. I removed 131 pounds of lever, pivots, rods, etc. by taking the mechanical emerg brake system off -- I was amazed but it was some big, heavy ironmongery! Thanks for your photos and descriptions. |
