Howdy folks. I did get my starter solinoid fixed and starter works great. Thank you all! Now this cold weather is causing issues. Its been below zero here in eastern Washington statefor about three weeks. It looks like my antifreeze tester lied to me, I have slush in the expansion tank where you fill it up with water. I am looking for a petcock drain and cannot find it. I could just take a low hose clamp lose.but where it is parked I can't make even a little mess. I have her ideling with the radiater covered up so I can try and build some heat. She's @ about 150 degrees now. Next on the list is my dash air pressure gauge will not show any PSI and my low air buzzer will not shut off. Where does one put the alcohol in the air system? My bags air up and I seem to have brake function. I really was trying to beat the freeze and head south this year but my starter issue delayed my leaving. Last year I was able to park her at my mobile home lot and keep her plugged in to keep the batteries charged and plug in my block heater. But new owners of the park don't like 35 foot buses in their park. So I have her stored at the Eagles. Man I don't know how you Nuts in these subzero winter climates can do it. I spent most of this summer and fall stripping the paint and por 15 the skins trying to beat this weather, but didn't plan for these problems. Is that called PPP? Yes it is! Anyway trying to save my bus from devastation. Thanx Ed |

Edward When I Got my first bus home, I scratched my head and said to myself. Self, seeing its reasonably comfortable for five months out of the year should we build a barn or fight the elements for the other seven? Well we build the barn, insulated and heated and can play to our hearts content. Joe. |

Last time I had a low temp problem I hung a blanket around the eng. compartment. Then I put 2 flood lights in the eng. compartment. This worked till I got enough coolant in her to keep her safe...Cable |

If you are CAREFUL you can put some charcoal briquets in a metal garbage can lid and when they are glowing, slide it under the oil pan or suspected frozen componants (like your air dryer, relay valves, etc.) to thaw 'em out. Maybe you can get it in a warm shop then to deal with getting the moisture out of the air system. Be extremely careful doing this. |

but in antifreeze booster and run her to get it everywhere in the coolant. Make sure you open the front to the drivers heater core. You can drain a small amount at a time by just loosening a bottom clamp (put something to catch) before adding the booster. Do you have an air drier on your coach? alcohol will not get ride of ice only prevent it from turning if its vapor Have you ever but a beer in the freezer the beer will freeze and leave just the alcohol as liquid! Most important to drain the air system in our old units every time we use them. I installed a quick drain in all tanks with a cable that goes to the side where I can walk around the coach and pull on the cable to let out the water vapor and water when I shout down the engine after running or airing up from a shop system! Water in the system can do a lot of damage to the air system! Lessen to what Buswarrior had to say I think it was to Nellie last winter on how to get unfrozen and head south thats where I'm heading after the storm's are over on Monday! People who drive big rigs in Canada know about air and water in the air systems! |

Thanx to all again. BW , thanx for the ghosts of winters past archive links. There is so much information on this site if one can gain acess to the archives. My issue is that my phone is my only technology, ie computer,so my browsing is somewhat limited. After I read Nellies problem she had I know what I have done to create this airline freeze. Because my starter was out and I had tunnel vision, when I had to take out the header pipe I used my generator to power up my land compressor to air the bags to get to that lower muffler clamp. Aha, that's is probably how moisture got into my air lines. Tommorow AM I will check it out. I see above my thread Nellie did get south this winter and is playing a bus 2010 event. Good go there. Sorry Joe Global Warming is a Real thing and not measured by the temp anywhere but by the average temp of the world as a whole. Read up on it and you will see that the winters will get harsher and shorter! Changing weather patterns so yes some places will be colder then ever and others will be warmer then ever and more are warmer then ever around the world! Yes the average temp of the world is up and islands are diapering in the oceans. And in the end Global Warming will bring on another ICE Age all the Ice Ages they have studied where proceeded by a warming the more Hot the earth got the bigger the Freeze and once it was Snowball Earth! Hope you take this not as a Jump on you as they say Just the Facts! (Message edited by Robsedona on December 14, 2009) |

Rob, No offense but how many of those previous warming episodes followed by an ice age were man made? I agree these things come in cycles but from my standpoint human kind is just along for the ride. |

This is the first One helped by man! We as all life have an effect on the planet as a whole as far as weather. We have changed the weather some and the planet would not be here at this point in Warming with out man. we are a driver along for the ride I think. As they say "Alls Well That Ends Well" I think life will always find a Way and they say the earth is a living Planet :-) |

One volcano can spew more carbon in a couple days than man can in 500 years. Al Gore has been sent to hold meetings with the volcano leader. |

Back to buses .... It is easy to "deice" an airplane. Just take it into a warm hangar and snow and ice will fall off of it in a few moments. What's much harder is DRYING it out. Having your control surfaces lock up when the water in the hinges refreezes as you're climbing through 1000 feet will spoil your whole day. Once you've thawed your bus, what do you do to dry it out????? |

Bruce has it nailed... Unless you get that ice in there melted, then get the wet in there laced with anti-freeze, you will be disabled again. No practical way to dry it out in the moment. Bad habits in tank draining and air drier maintenance cannot be reversed without a lot of dry air through the system in conditions under which it is wet, not frozen. Which comes in Spring, or after the cold snap. Momentary functionality without lots of antifreeze is not victory, it is just the set-up for morale crushing re-occurrence. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Not taking sides, but isn't there a song about 'take a look at yourself...?' And isn't there some time worn old saw about 'practice what you preach?' Seems to me, if we're sincere in a belief it should dictate (or at least influence) our behavior. My point? Seems like we all feel just fine driving around in our old pre-emission standard buses. Just a thought. Nellie |

"Global Warming is a Real thing" (was) as is global cooling. It ALL has been going on for about 4.3 BILLION years. Right now we are Inter-glacine (between ice ages) but I always wonder after 4.3 Billion years of constant change what made EDEN the day ALGORE was born? With that as the desired goal forever? Climate changes , the weather changes , neither is man made. GLOBAL GOVERNANCE is the goal of this HOAX , nothing at all to do with the weather , climate or anything but the loss of freedom and extracting more ca$h from the free world . FF |

Oh wait, how do we get electricity? Humm. I LOVE the new nonsense of electric battery powered cars with no onboard generator. These folks will soon be off our roads , waiting to get charged by the roadside. We should at least congradulate them for being the first COAL POWERED cars since the Stanly Steamer. Coal powers the base load , their charge source. FF |

WOW LOL your Bus is not an issue Golbal Warming is not just man made A lot of things add up the green house gas! Man is but a small part of the Whole. Did you know that for some years now we have had 3 volcanos blow a year thats a lot of green house gas! True with out man it would not be as bad right now I think you need to read other books also! cutting all the trees in the rainforest is the thing man is doing that is the worst because 25% of the oxygen for the whole Earth comes from there and the co2 they suck up well!!!!!!!!!! We need the trees and plants they are a big part in the cycle of Green house Gas! GLOBAL GOVERNANCE (World Government) yes they do want more and more power and money in fewer and fewer hands!! Remember its the free world that gets the most lies from the powers that be! They have to get us on their side some way other places they just do as they want. Is the Government talking then they are mostly Lying! |

Gosh, all these years I thought weather just normally changed. Now I find it's all due to man. Must have been pretty consistent back in the days of the dinosauer. Oh wait... didn't they all perish for some weird reason? I'm thinking, I'm thinking...OH, wasn't something to do with climate change? Global Warming freakos: Grab a shovel and some sapplings and go plant some trees. If you're right, they should have plenty to eat (CO2, that is). And they'll fart it out as nice pure oxygen...a much nicer result than all your gasbagging. Nellie |

...carbon emissions are bus business , as much as our consciences are attached to these buses! +there is one major issue to know on this new twist in environmental belief-ism- the ability to adapt to change is what separates the extinct from the still evolving , if you accept survival as the meaning of all life. ~"PERHAPS,we as bus nuts of increasing conscience may have a need to deal with the "carbon releasing stigma" attached to our passion & move forward with some resemblance of facts to mitigate the mass belief system that is being installed in place of reasoning, "if only" by example & for our own continuance of mindfulness !" -perhaps a look at the lack of success of a fuel carbon tax in British Columbia , which in theory would reduce the ability of poor folks (such as myself) to consume proved those receiving the benefit of this wealth transfer would fill the void with increased consumption, which they now could better afford. =failing any of this making a shred of sense to y'all; ehy, just attach a mission to your exploratory & vacational travels to justify the fuel consumption, works for me when I can afford fuel or efficiency upgrades ! (IF everyone else can lie to me for there own benefit, why the hell then, is it not socially acceptable for me to lye to myself for my own benefit! just being sarcastic hear , not really asking this as a question) |
