Good morning gentlemen (and Ladies, too)

My 6 pin round diagnostics plug does not transmit data to a diagnostic device plugged in to it. In troubleshooting this, I found that the ECU has 2 sets of data terminals: one in the 30-pin connector (wires D900 and D901) and one in the 6-pin communications connector (wires D800 and D801).

Does any one know which set of terminals are supposed to be hooked up to the 6 pin Deutsch connector in the driver's area? That connector has only room for one set of data terminals.

Thanks.

John. The J1587 data wires are 900 (data +) and 901 (data -). My book does not show 800 and 801.

Thanks, Jim. I did note that when I had my ecm reprogrammed for axle ratio and tire size the technician pulled the communications connector off the ECM and connected his laptop there to do the reprogramming. Did you have your reprogramming done via the 6 pin Deutsch diagnostic connector?

John, when I had to upgrade to a DDEC IV ECM (for the J1939 connection to my transmission), the DDC dealer did the programming using the method you describe.

When I was ready to get the bus on the road, I used my Pro Link via the data port in the front to set various variables including the rear end ratio and tire size.

Bottom line, the ECM does not care where the connection to the J1578 data pair is made.

Jim

As I suspected. Thanks for clearing this up.
