nope, in San bernadino CA. owner or part owner is here in PA. I have seen the thing on boards from time to time and know someone who has an interest, but it has been setting for the better part of 10 years so the story goes. |

Well, It just ran out on its bay listing again, with no bids. I have the phone number, thanks to John Vickers, and was going to make an appointment to go look at it next week. Its features were not well described in the listing, and ALL of the original windows are visible, as are all three roof levels. So, unless the floors under the seats were lowered into the bays, which would also require relocating the starting batteries, it may not have much headroom. Lots of HR in the aisle, but only about 6'2" on the sides. If its been sitting for 10 years, it MAY still have 13.5 X 24.5 bias ply tires on the drive and steer, which haven't been made in at least 25 years. Difficulties with wheels cracking have been reported with using 11 X 24.5 radial tires on the old 13.5 bias wheels. The good news is that new 22.5 wheels can be made to the unusual bolt pattern on these buses drive and steer axles, and fit the brake drums with no problems. The tag axle bolt pattern interchanges with other standard bus patterns. I don't know if the MC6 pattern is the same as a Van Hool? A radiator air scoop has been added, louvers have been cut in the cowling above the engine room doors, and new screened engine room doors have been made. All of this says heating problems, which puzzles me. Mine finally got to 205 F at 105 outside, while climbing the Baker Grade on I15 towards Las Vegas. An 8V92T should be much more fuel efficient, and therefore put out less heat than the 12V71? The only explanation I have is that the engine has a dual cooler on it, and the radiator is cooling the trans as well? I'm in LA, (85 miles away) but have to go to Moreno Valley (only about 20 miles away) for a job right after Christmas, and was thinking of going by to look. I'll admit, I'll go 20 miles to look at another 6 anytime! So, if someone has a specific inspection request, please say so, and I will be glad to look and report back! George |

I saw that posting and I thought it had real "character"! I'd love to see some mechanical photos - just out of curiosity. I've never seen a MCI 6 in person. There is always something new to learn by looking at another bus. |

The rear pictures do exude testosterone! An original engine room is different from anything you've ever seen, and installing an 8V instead of a 12V would allow auxiliaries to be installed on the cams. Anyhow, let's see what the weekend brings. G |

Well, The weekend brought a trip to see the bus. The outside looks like the day it was built. Converted approximately 26 years ago, interior, engine and trans. The stock aux drive has been removed, and all the auxiliaries are driven off the cams and blower drive. 8V92T and a 740 auto, electric shift. A belt driven coach air compressor has been installed, along with 3 cruise airs, one of which doesn't work. Seperate 12 and 24 volt alternators. All electric. Now we need to re-read my earlier posts, as I didn't miss by much. The tires are 12R24.5 Michelins with 99.5% tread remaining, on the original wheels, 10 years old, with sidewall cracking. No spare. All the original windows still in place, which means none openable. ONE s/s waste tank, water system not working, toilet not installed. Yanmar gen starts and runs well, a motor/generator set instead of an inverter. A shore/gen xfr switch, so I don't understand the mg set? A small Jacuzzi tub thru the bathroom floor into the bay. The floor was only lowered into the first two bays, so the bedroom only has about 5'10' headroom. Its exuded all its testosterone, there's a whole lot MORE, number's in the profile. G |

... thank you kindly toddsteer, now if only someone would tell me the winning lotto numbers for the next draw, seems hard work doesn't amount to much riches anymore. ~ about those lowered floors on the six, this is the second six for sale that I have become aware of with this modification. Never having even seen a frame scetch of the six, is this not a structualy risky thing? For my money it kind of destroys one of the many features I covet in the six, huge lugage bays. Seems a partial roof raise would have been a better way to go, like the red one dan rather use to get to use. {I hope my eight isn't reading this , it's way overdue for attention without me lusting over other coaches, IF ONLY for the sake of preservation interest.} |

Clint, Please be more careful of what you post, as its not very flattering to be called a castrated calf! (I am assuming it was accidental.) On a positive note, the bus has been sold for a reasonable amount. It will be headed East in the spring, after some repairs are made. The buyer has promised to sign up here! G |

hum... had to think hard about that one Mc-george-six, NO SIR you show plenty of "testicular fortitude" my friend, and often fine informative details to go along with your post. Must have been a creative reading/writing typo, perhaps it would be better if I used the slang "stear" as in "giving direction" like steering a bus or ship ? Thanks friend , for sharing more amazing "six" stuff, for us that continue to "believe" they need one but can only manage to wounder on until that day... (in lieu of a genuine apology from a bus nut that finds so much of this competitive world repulsive and regressive , what I had decided long ago , was to turn my interpretations into something I can make use out of & better disarm possilbe intended harm that might have been aimed at inflicting damage on my person with no good justification. ( If they shot lead at me, I might re-use the shot for making batteries or something , provide I manage to move out of the way in time.) ~bus on in peace~ |

... one question remains unanswered here, was this a 8V92 with a twin turbo or non-turbo as I didn't understand the twin exhaust pipes going up the back. -perhaps the new owner will share with us , once he has the six-coach safe at home ? I think we all desire more on these nifty & innovative people hauliers. |
