Here I am, in Arcadia, Florida, safely parked in Jack's backyard. Thank God and thanks to "y'all" (see? I'm even getting the southern accent!!!...as long as I don't add 'hey' after it) I've got to tell you something: since I left, last January, I stopped here and there, and the best times I've had was when I was at some busnut's place; Ralph, who was a tremendous help, then Howard who helped me a lot too... since then I've stopped at some 'friends' of mine, and got no help whatsoever... help that had been promised for two years, both music wise and bus wise... a big zero (actually, a lot worse than zero)... makes me wonder... and I'm very sad about it. I won't elaborate on the subject, but wanted you to know that I truly appreciate this community for the bonds it creates, and for the spirit that animates all of us 'nuts' messing around with our 'babies'. To Gomer: So sorry I missed you, I did try to call last night and got no answer. I didn't expect to make it so far south that day, but managed to get to Ocala. When I couldn't raise you, cruised on down to the Wildwood truck stop and camped out with the Peterbilts and Freightliners. Pretty okay with me... some guy even asked if I was a movie star (but will probably lose his CDL after his next eye test). Who cares? A girl needs that once in awhile. Anyway, expect I'll see you at the Rally? I sure hope so! I hope I find some work real fast... I would go pick oranges or clean johns if I have to... whatever... music would sure be the best! As I think I mentioned before, the stint in Havelock, NC just killed me. One of the most dreadful experiences of my life. Well, we'll see what happens. At least I'm away from even the tiniest snowflake (for quite awhile I hope  . And I'm happy to FINALLY report a trouble-free trip. Nellie, to bad you did bypass Ocala and Bushnell and nevermind, there are (used to be anyway) Hundreds of bars and "places" in central florida.I am betting you will find your way to some and if nothing else put out the hat. Just be carefull, every band i played in with women we had to guard them at closing time! trick is to get out by midnite. I hate playing at bars now but try the flea markets (bus parking1)they work on a daily rotation thru out the state. Used to be Webster on Mondays and Leesburg/Umatilla on Thurs, Ocala drive in weekends etc.Jack and Paula probably will have some ideas. Glad you made it, hope to see you at Jacks, my wife writes and plays her own music also and is looking foward to meeting you. Gomer now HAS to come to Arcadia!!! | ||

Thanks for the tips David. I'm fighting a baaad cold right now - souvenir from NC - not much voice or energy for now... as soon as I get back on my feet, I'll attend to all of these opportunities around. I'm aiming more at playing in restaurants, it's more my 'crowd' since I mostly play by myself. I sure am looking forward to see you at Jacks too! And if I made it from Quebec to Florida (though it took me a year!!!) there's definitely no reason for Gomer not to get his a** down here, right Gomer??? | ||

Rally is Tuesday, December 29 through Friday, January 1. Early arrivals are OK beginning on Saturday, December 26. Much of the "good stuff" goes quick, so best to arrive early for the bargains. Jack |
