I am contemplating on purchasing an Onan 12.5k Quiet Diesel. I need to know if I need to have a hole underneath it for airflow? It seems from pictures that the top and sides are sealed to quiet it down. I can make it fit in the ac condenser compartment. It seems that I may have to move the inner wall back about 3-4 inches to make the compartment deeper. I do not know if I will need to cut a hole in the floor. I have an opportunity to buy one at a good price. The deal is good enough that I am not entertaining alternatives. Jojo |

Jojo, Although you have probably stated in other posts, what type of bus. In an MC9 that inner wall is the fuel tank. I found out the hard way when I was mounting the power disconnect for the generator and couldn't figure out what the self drilling screws were hitting behind that panel. Steve MC9 Pontiac |

You will have to cut two holes in the floor. The air intake, cooling air exhaust, and the exhaust pipe all go through the floor. I mounted mine in the first bay on the driver's side, giving me access to the aux fuel tank for the generator. Couln't be happier. BTW, speaking of hidden fuel lines, DON'T drill or drive screws through the floor of the first bay in a line forward to rear, about a foot wide. This is where the fuel lines to and from the aux tank are hiding. I ended up with a gusher! Randy Schlotthauer MC9 - Almost Done! |

I guess I will do like Randy and put it in the 1st bay on the driver side. This way no moving walls. I have an MC-5 and it probably has the fuel tank behind that wall as well. I will just replace the door on the AC condenser compartment with stainless siding and use it as storage to make up for what I lose in the bay. Thanks for the info guys. Jojo |

If it is anything like the Onan 7.5 QD all the routine service is performed from the front and below. |

I have a 12.5kw Quiet Diesel, which is destined to be installed in my truck conversion. The guy I bought it from advised me to remove the fuel filter from the factory position and move it somewhere a lot easier to service it. You can just see it through a round hole in the black chassis. He said it is a major pain to get to in that position. He worked on these units so I suppose he should know. It did look hard to access without removing a bunch of sheet metal. Peter. |
