A few years ago , while at a Bus Bash in Ohio , they gave a tour of Custom Coach. OF course all the new coaches were a bit pricy , only about $600,000 then , but there was an exhibit of some of the conversions from decades ago. One item that cought my eye was a REAL door lock, stuff fron a class 8 truck, stuck into a coach door. The typical RV junk has a history of falure, and a house "Deadbolt" requires finding a small turn latch {perhaps in the dark , escaping a fire} I talked to the fellow that was displaying the coach about their instalation. After a few false starts and a whole lot of running around I was able to convert the front of my 4106 to a real doorlock. Tom Hall, a fellow with a fine wewbsite , was kind enough to let it be posted on his "Articles" section. http://users.cwnet.com/~thall/FAST%20FRED.htm It is still working flawlessly , but the parts and pieces are not cheap, and it takes some carving , and thinking to get it installed . BUT only hand tools , no welding. The door can be locked from the outside with the key , or inside with a slide{ equal to the "button" in a standard auto door}. I would do this addition again to any coach, that had a thick enough post next to the door. FAST FRED |
