Anyone have them on their 4905's? (or 4107,08,4903) Yes, I know they didn't come with them new. I know that some would either prefer the manual ones or that they felt they were unreliable.

Another item that seems to work on a constantly used OTR truck that may be more maint than labor saving.

5000 miles a year vs 150,000 does make a difference,

Make sure that you keep them greased and the the rubber boots are good and they should work ok. Periodic maintainence is needed. You can not just put 'em on and forget about them.

Regarding greasing, some (not all) manufacturers recommend using NLGI #1 grease and some don't. Based on my experience over the years I have our shop using only NLGI #1 for auto slacks. Why, because some (not all) ASAs at times have a problem with the "heavier" #2 grease holding the clutching mechanism apart...so the moral of this story is to at least consider checking with the manufacturer and finding out what the spec for the grease is...you might want to know so that next time you have your coach serviced you will know. You might want to have a grease gun loaded with #1 to keep with you.
Also, one of the things grease does is keep out the water from rusting the spring, etc.
This is not a Delo 100 vs. multi vis thing!!

The biggest drawback to having auto slack adjusters is that if you have them you are much less inclined to inspect under the bus regularly. Other things chafe, crack, wear etc. I have found a chafing air bag and an air hose too when I was under to adjust the brakes. I saved at least two breakdowns on the side of the road.

Greyhound & others had the bus over a pit every few thousand miles which was just a few days. Our coaches may not be over a pit in 10 years.

Buswarrior, NO I Don't have them on my 4905,or the 4104 or the MCI. I like to crawl under and get greasy, dirty and sometimes frustrated. Then I can be sure of everything under the coach.

John -

I only know two 4905 owners here on the left coast, one never posts on the board and is hard to get hold of on the phone and his '05's been sold, I think.

The other couple lives near my sister, will be up there for the holidays and will check in w/ them.

Maybe McGyver will chime in as to whether or not the '05 he just sold had them. (Where is Mac, anyway??)

Hang in there. . .

:-)

John, as no one has answered I thought I would ask...are you looking for them or just asking about them?
If you are looking for them, I might be able to locate some if you are interested

I'm interested in using them. They've proven themselves in otr use for enough years and miles, that I'm ready to use them on mine. Another pita job that I can eliminate and just check when lubing.I haven't gotten into them in the last few years, but one style would automatically adjust back if gotten too tight. I thought that someone had been the ginea pig by now.

RJ,

New subject, what is the link to GMC bus deliveries?

My old one closed down.
