Even Key West is a little cold right now.... Coldest winter we've had in FL in quite a while.

Went down to KW and had a great time , got a harbor cruise in Marathon , and it was like the old days.(lived aboard for almost 23 years).

Then we cruised up to Destin for a week .

The bride loves to go to a spinning convention (lots of ladies sit in a room using their spinnimg wheels & having a Show & Tell of what their last years projects were).

I am just the bus driver , but it gives me a few days to catch up on reading & perhaps the new Tom Clancy.

The DD enjoys the nearly 600 mile home run, as its always Oil Change time after the 12 hours at the gov.

Got home , just in time to change the oil , park the beast and watch the super bowl!

Doesn't get any better!

Yes, there was 15F deg weather while in Destin , many pipes in the campground broke , and the sticks & staples with "basement" water tanks , holding tanks & plastic water or sewer setups sustained lots of damage.

One fellow left the water dripping , only to have the OUTPUT freze and woke to 3 inches of grey water in the coach carpet.
No hassles with my "inside" style converson.
The coach started with ease , but the 1500W block heater was on ALL night.

No problem with the "1960's" alcohol unit on the brakes, everything works as well now as it did for millions of trucks for so many decades.

For Alan'
"Maintains the origional ICC break rather than installing maxie (safety) breaks? Or still has the origional break application valve (treddle valve). He could but I dought it."

Sorry WRONG,

I vastly prefer the origonal ICC setup to the springy brakes ,
as I can initate the stopping as desired ,
and release it as needed if necessary.

Giving controll to an "automatic" system is probably great for comercial trucks , where a mostly untrained "driver" (wheel holder) would not recognise the problem or know how to operate the system.

As a retired "bigger" bus driver , practice for an emergency , constant systems knowledge , (and having EVERY system fail 2X a year in the simulator while playing "You Bet Your Job" is old stuff.
So I chose to be in charge , rather than the spring.MY WAY

When a "sportscar" (4106) is done light , the weight is only 24,000 in camping use.
(Although another 4 or 5000 lbs heavier in our spring/fall transit)so the origonal treddle valve works just fine.

After all if you can almost lock the wheels , that's all there is.

YES ,I also still prefer the old "Johnson " bar as emergency break #2 , as well as unfailing parking brake.

Every owner has the option to decide if the "newer" stuff is worth the time & effort of purchasing , modifying , installing and then maintaining.( Three hours to change an air filter in a drier, annually ,,or 10 seconds to add alcohol to the installed jar ?)

My choice is to asses the usefullness and function of the "latest" and see if it fits with MY style, in most cases the new stuff doesn't meet MY requirements.

Hey FFred!!

Wonder what happens to an air dryer if the electric wire for its heater isn't working in sub zero? Wonder if the heater is even working? How about that "automatic" thermostatic grounding doohickey? Did someone remember to run a wire for the heater when it was retrofitted?

For those doing proper PM on the air dryers: Hope you're checking that heater circuit for functionality too, as well as changing the dessicant annually!

Oh, the air dryer heater was powered by the coach heat switch, which I ripped out last summer.....? Geez, maybe I should have traced that schematic a little closer....?

Oops?

(For those learning, the above air dryer heater circuit failure will cause the moisture collected in the air dryer to freeze before or as it is purged and you will be unable to get any air beyond the air dryer and into the tanks. Hope for an early spring when this happens! If you are on a tight budget, checking the heater circuit is a good use of your time and costs nothing. Even an air dryer with spent dessicant will remove some moisture from the system)

And as FFred has pointed out, there has been a hard freeze in Florida. Not a good idea having a coach which is set up for failure in freezing temps, because the DO happen.

It's all in how one wants to spend what precious moments and money one has left, I suppose.

Thanks for being here FFred! They don't have to follow, but they'd better at least consider....

just a little disturbing 'cause this is what I'm choosing to do with my moments this evening....

happy coaching!
