I need to re route the exhaust smoke stack from protruding out the top to straight down. What are the implications? Will I get in trouble with the CA highway patrol because I'm blowing smoke down instead of up? I need to insulate the heater blower box because it is loosing most of the heat before it gets inside the coach. There is only one inch clearance between the exhaust pipe and the heater blower box. Heat from the exhaust pipe will melt away my insulation or possibly ignite. Any thoughts? |

The thing that came to mind when I read your post was. Why change the exhaust? If I had my way, I would have stacks on my bus to route the smoke up and away from the back of the bus rather than all over my towed vehicle and people following behind me. Just one man's preference FWIW. John |

There are insulating materials that are designed to be used on exhust pipes. They are there to keep the heat in the exhust pipe. I will try to find the supplier I used for the exhust on my generator. I will get back to you later. Roger |

The supplier, EHP advertises in BCM magazine. The email address of Penn Lenson, their rep, is pennsue@earthlink.net. He can answer all your questions and is the most helpful guy I ever dealt with. No, I have no interest in EHP, just a satisfied customer. |

FWIW, I know a number of guys with upward blowing exhausts on Blue Bird coaches w/ S60DDs that are having rust out problems. There is a real potential for a fire. Too many turns right after the turbo. They would like to have them blow down to the side, but there is no room, so up they go. NH Bill |

Remember every 90 deg bend is like about 20 ft of exhaust pipe. You might think about upgrading the muffler to one from Pittsburg Power (5.5 in & out 51 long)and getting better mileage. FF |

Recently removed the muffler off the 3208T on our 1983 FC BB Wanderlodge. Running 4" straight pipe out the side 2/3 way back. Increased boost a bit and dumped a lot of carbon build up and it seems to be happier. It is a bit throatier, but not too loud. I know a number of guys doing the same thing with 6v92s and they state similar results. NH Bill |

I know that the CVC is specific on heights of exhaust outlets, but I don't recall anything about down. Lots of stuff shoot it down. |
