you stated that you have a 4905 then unless you have a huge amount of cash and are a space rocket builder then best to for get it as the bus has a body like a air plane with no frame and if you cut the top offyou will end up with a big AL. horse shoe in front of the shop even if blocked properly you can end up with lots of design trouble. you will see this when you get in inside cleaned out how ever it is your bus .......mel 4104

Well, there are certainly EASIER buses to raise the roof on, but it has been done, many times and in several different ways. The way I like best of those I have seen, is to make the cut at the middle of the windows all around, then put the extensions in there.

I own a 4905 and when I looked into raisin the roof, I ecided not to do it. Too much money and not enough gain. You need to talk to Luke at U.S. Coach. He knows best. Tell him Mike told you to talk to him about the project and I do mean Project''''''' Mike

No, but one of the 4905s that was raised, was done by a guy that also raised the roof on a scenicruiser - both roofs!
He used the forward raised portion as a bedroom, with stairs up to that room, quite impressive!
Mike, I was not aware that Luke had ever raised roofs on the 4905 model, maybe he will share his experience with us?

Raising the roof on any GM is not harder than on most other coaches, your taking an egg & creating a bigger egg.
Backyarders do fine, but nead REAL rivit gun & rivets.

BUT any attempt at slide outs or rear doors DOES require a very sound,
aircraft level understanding of monocoque structures and the effects of modifying these structures.

Hi Don:
No, we haven't raised the roof on a 4905, although it can be successfully done.
Your friend John Westwood has been here and shared with me the photos of his roof being raised by some folks in the midwest.
After cutting the verticle supports at the window line, they installed a very strong, structural latice work on both sides.
Judging by the pictures, the bus is probably stronger today than when built.
I Hope this HELPS!!!

Thanks Luke. Yes, of course John and Grace Westwoods is one of the raises I was speaking of, and in fact the person that raised theirs is the one that did the scenicruiser also. Having watched Johns' entire raise process, I also feel, it is stronger than originally built, but retains it original lines very well I think. I can send someone a photo of it if they are really interested.

Take a look at Randy & Sue Schreifels - 1978 GMC PD-4905 in the conversions in progress. He raised his 10 inches and it looks pretty good to me.
