Doug - I'd sure like those if I can figure a way to pick them up. How long can you stand having them in your shop? (I'm down in FL right now.) Are you anywhere near Carlisle? Nellie Wilson |

Free,, is always a delight but unless its a spare , you might want to know the date of manufacture . Many folks will toss road tires (or sell them ) at the 7 year point. A blowout can wipe out far more goodies under the coach than 6 Michelins . The spare tire well may require a 12R' to be carried uninflated to fit. Receptor Emptor FF |

Ed, I am geting ready to buy tires for the 1965 5 that I purchased last summer. I was just wondering how you liked the 11R's. I beleive that is what I am leaniong towards putting on mine. |

Ken, that is what came on it and i have replaced the 4 drive tires with the same size. Like them just fine but then i have nothing to compare them too. :>) I just replaced all 4 of my frame bumpers, (that was a job!...pain in the butt.) and in the course of doing so found out that i had 2 steel wheels that had cracks in them.....one was noticeable, the other was barely visible, so i also just bought 6 new steel wheels. Had the tires mounted on them but i put them on the bus myself by hand.......ain't letting anybody ever use an air gun on these babies.! |

Thanks Ed for the reply. I understand about the air gun thing. I am getting this bus ready to go full timing in. Gonna pull the plug on the everyday maddness,Oct.1 of next year. |

Just about all bus conversions that have 12R-22.5's can be converted to 11R-22.5. Why? 12R's are a hard size to find outside big cities, and many times the transit companies have all of them. If you weigh your bus front axle and back separately, you might find that you no long need the weight carrying capability of the 12R's. I personally switched mine to 11R-24.5 16ply since they are the biggest in diameter road tire you can buy and transits naturally sit lower then highway buses. Good Luck, TomC |

Ed - I'm running 12Rs (steer) and 315/80s on the drives. Hoped the 12Rs might work with the 315s but maybe not? Have to check the respective diameters, I guess. I wanted (like yourself) to run 11Rs but that plan got scuttled (another tale of getting shafted by a 'service facility'). Were you able to use the same wheels? Tom - Can you mount the 24.5s on the same wheel as 22.5s? unof |

A 24.5 tire has to be mounted on a 24.5 wheel. A 22.5 tire has to be mounted on a 22.5 wheel. |

Nellie, i have good tires, (11R x 22.5" ) but found that i had at least 2 wheels with cracks, so bought 6 new 8.25" x 22.5" steel wheels instead of just replacing the two, and had my tires remounted and balanced. Put them back on the bus myself and hand torqued to specs using my 12:1 multiplier. No air guns will be used on these wheels!! |
