I have an Onan 8k diesel in the old air conditioning bay on my '06. I am have an 8"x28"x2.5" oval muffler under the bus running to exit in front of the rear tire. It has been hit on the ground too many times, I need a new one.
Question: What kind of muffler are you using for your gen set? And where do you get it?

I would get a very small, straight through, round muffler from JC Whitney where I get all my exhaust stuff because they have such a good selection at reasonable prices. Some of their round mufflers are very rugged.

For such a long exhaust and small engine you won't need much of a muffler. You might even try it with no muffler to see what happens.

Is there any way you can install the muffler before it goes under the bus?

Mine exits out the side, our AC compartments are in the same location.

Even better is a side exit with a vertical, detachable pipe for when parked.

Darrell
I used a muffler from an older Honda car. Cheap and it was oval so it didn't stick down too far.

Give Pete/Daytona a yell. He's either here,
or on that "other" board.

He had showed me a muffler that makes the thing
silent, but I forgot what the hell it was.

A few 90 degree bends in some straight pipe seems to quiet them down quite a bit.

John MC9

I think you may have me confused with someone who knows what he's doing. ??

I have a 7KW Onam emerald gas genny - it has an internal muffler - I just pipe it thru a removable aluminum downspout when using the genny at rallies

Naww Pete... You told me about an automotive muffler for the
Honda liquid cooled 6010 I bought from youse awhile back..

I still have the genset, and never got the muffler.. and the bus is gone,
along with my brain.. can't remember the muffler brand/type,
and was hoping you could.

I thought you had said you used one and it was the best one to use.

(I'm not crazy, I swear!) ( I've been swearing for years)

I think that NAPA still lists chambered pipe in their exhaust catalog. It is only about 2 1/2 inch in diameter. If the muffler you currently use is only 2 1/2 in dia, are your leveling valves set properly? Or you going over very uneven surfaces? I have one similar (4 inches high) under the 04 and don't have a problem.

Highly recommend you get a Diesel rated muffler like from Donaldson. While a car muffler may work for awhile, the holes in the baffles on a car muffler are typically too small to pass the carbon build up from a Diesel genset, hence in a few years they get clogged up and make for more back pressure. The Diesel rated muffler has bigger baffle holes that will allow the soot to pass. Good Luck, TomC

If he uses a straight through packed muffler he won't have any hole problem.
