hello all, I was considering getting a '81 Prevost Lemirage, but what are the main differnces between that and the MCI 9? Is the prevost harder to maintain? I liked the MCI because I was familiar with is and it had no rust. Do you think I am best off staying with the MCI'? What are the steering systems of a Prevost, MCI has boost and integral, is that the same as Prevost? Thanks! |

The big difference that I see is the windows. When you want to put cabnets above the windows in a Prevost you will block part of the windows. You do not have this problem with a MCI. The mechanical part is no big deal. There is not that much difference in them. |

Jason, I am thinking about the same options for a coach. Where you are looking at coaches? I may have looked at them already. What part of the country do you live? Here are a couple things that I have uncovered. Both can have problems with rust but the Prevost rust can be more easily seen. MCI tend to have rust hidden in the walls. Prevost can have problems with the windows leaking so you need to check the flooring. Prevost have problems with rust in the wheel wells (mainly the rear). MCI has rust problems under the windows be you tend not to see it until removing the inner skin. The Prevost has one side radiator. MCI' have their radiatorstors above the motor one on each side. The Prevost has more usable space on the inside due to this fact. MCI's have always been known to over heat. I have not heard this problem about Prevosts. The Prevost has a shorter turning radius and has a lift tag that helps with the turning radius. If you go with the MCI make sure you get a '82 or newer. MCI did some updates on the steering that improved the turning radius. On the Prevost the air bags are set out further on the axles giving greater side to side stability. The Prevost had a true frame like a Eagle (I believe they came from the same design house.) MCI has stressed panel construction. Roof raising are about the same on both coaches. On MCI you make the cuts in the window frames. You will need new windows. On the Prevost you make the cut under the side windows. You can reuse the side windows or order new sliders from Prevost. Prevost tend to have lower mileage on them compared to MCIs because Prevost were not used by any of the major lines. This does not say they are in better shape. The Prevost's were used by smaller charter lines and service may be a issue. Ron Leiferman South Dakota |
