For those who are looking for better headlights for night driving, I have found what I think is a really good price. This young man who sells the kits works at a local O'Reilly's auto parts store. He is currently building a website to sell the lights direct but it is not quite finished. He sells the ballast and wiring for $150 for the pair, if you need new housings because yours are sealed, they run an additional $20 and up depending on what they look like. Shipping is a flat rate of $11 in the US. I have new lens housings for $60 and the ballasts/wiring for $150 on my 91 Prevost. Talk about bright, he put a 50 W "brightstar" bulb in one side and a 35 W 9004 bulb in the other for demonstration purposes. The HID side starts off dimmer but within 15-20 exceeds the brightstar side by a huge margin. Like night and day in my Preovst, well pleased with the results. If anyone is interested, I told him I would put the two of you together. Rob 91 Prevost LeMirage XL Missouri |

These new super bright headlights are a real nuisance. I hate these things. People who won't lower headlight beams are bad enough with halogens but it is many times worse now. I can't think of any normal driving needs that won't be met by good halogen lights. Spending this kind of money to light up the night is not for me. |

Just remember these HID retrofit kits are not street legal. Expensive ticket if you get stopped, and you can also be forced to have the vehicle towed to a safe place if you are driving at night (unless you can easily change back to legal headlamps). SAE lamp housings made for incandescent bulbs may only legally be equipped with incandescent bulbs. If the CPSC gets wind of your buddy's business, they can not only shut him down, but also fine him. -Sean http://OurOdyssey.BlogSpot.com |

OTOH, My headlamps (still) suck. But on the 'Even More Other Hand' I'll stick with them until I find a 100% legal alternative. No under-the-radar crap for this gal... 'specially if it ain't COMPLETELY under the radar . My solution? Drive slower and enjoy the 'beauty of the night.' Ta-tummm. Nellie Wilson |

Nellie, You can get Halogen sealed beams from NAPA for around $13. These are much brighter than regular sealed beams. They have the advantage of a Halogen bulb inside a sealed beam, this means if the lens cracks the bulb still burns. This is the reason I got them. The regular sealed beam will go out when the lens cracks. The most common cause of dim HLs is poor grounds. Just cleaning up the connections can do wonders. |

The European style optics, E-code lights, are well regarded by many. If you do a google search for Cibie lights, you'll find online catalogues to choose the ones you'd like, and the re-seller you'd like to deal with. They aren't inexpensive, so finding a busnut with a set to test drive might be needed for you to feel good about the investment. Another way to save, choose to buy only one pair, perhaps the outside pair, (the ones you use the most) and go with halogen sealed beams for the other pair. PS, check to be sure the headlights are properly aimed now, to be sure you are getting all of what you currently have. Lots of lights are aimed wrong. happy coaching! buswarrior (Message edited by buswarrior on January 28, 2010) |

On most busses the batts and electric is 40 ft from the headlights. Just as on old 6V Porsche a nice fat wire and a relay will make a world of difference . Voltage counts! FF |
