Hello again eveyone:

Has anybody here had good luck with ANY composting toilet system?

I read the earlier discussions on composters in the archives, but no clear consensus had been reached.

If somebody is having good luck, would you please provide the manufacturers name and model of the toilet?

thanks

Jared

Jared;

We tried a composting toilet 15 years ago with our former solar homestead cabin. Failed.

Required a 600 watt heating element in cool/cold weather. PV panels inadequate. Odor was also a problem--even in summer.

Sorry. Maybe they have improved since then. Perhaps someone has had better luck. Good luck. Henry of CJ

The 'outhouse' was a 'composting' toilet. I think what you seek is a 'burning' toilet. Same reaction, just a lot faster. Old enough to have experience with the former, enjoy modern convenience too much to have tried the latter.

Search for 'Incinolet' or something like it. Used to advertise in good sam or trailer life.

Sorry I can't help.

I should have been more specific with my last question.

I cannot justify the energy expense of a heated composting toilet, and I don't want to waste a lot of water. Soooo, my question should have been:

What kind of luck are you folks having with non-electric, zero (or near zero) water consumption, composting toilets?

I have been researching this, and it seems that there is no clear solution, maybe no solution at all.

"oh black water, keep on rollin...."

Jared,

Russ and Earline Murray researched and purchased a composting toilet. Last I heard (a while back) they had yet to install it. But they may have by now, and in any case, are probably worth talking to. Best way to reach them is on the GM Yahoo board. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gmc-busnuts/messages

Let us know the results of your research.

I use the same system used on old boats - a "y" valve that flushes straight down underneath the bus with the handle mounted next to the head. I'd say 90% of my flushing is 100% organic. No good in a RV Park though, McDonald's? That's a tough call........

Yuck... send me a map of where you've been so I don't accidently park there! I think twice about flushing greywater on the ground but pooh? ugly idea... :(

Sounds like a bad idea (and illegal) to me. But if you insist on this method, please don't do it at Walmart, truck stops or other places where RVs can enjoy the generous courtesy of brief and free overnight stays.
