First of all let me introduce myself my name is Matt Rutkowski and I am the guy who bought the 6 that was listed on Ebay several times.

Let me also say a huge thanks to Doug Wotering George Todd and Brian Roache without these guys I never would have been able to pull this off!

2 weeks ago I flew to california from PA to pick up the 6 ,I met some of the finest people that I had ever met in Brian and George.

We arrived on Friday the 15th of Jan and I fell in love with this thing that I had owned for several weeks but had never seen in person. After working for a solid 3 days to work out 10 years of sitting we felt good obout the trip ahead of us.So monday we took off for PA I was so excited that I drove 650 miles straight after being up for the entire day. We made it from Redlands CA to southern New mexico and then I had to give up the cockpit. 1 of my copilots took over and got us all the way to central texas (meanwhile we lost AC compressor and had to cut the belt off)then we pushed on thru Ark an on into tenn. we ran out of fuel half way thru tenn(I was told it held 50 Gal more than it does ) about 60 miles after getting back on the road we felt a thumping looked back and the wheel was flopping around. So at this point we made it to northern tenn and I had to rent a car one way to get home. After looking for a wheel for over a week I finally found one and the 6 should be home next week!

welcome Matt. document your adventure's. lots of pic's. everyone here loves pic's. write down everything while it's fresh in your mind. trust me, someday you'll be re-living this and that'll help take the blur outta it.
I only say this because I've been trying to relay some of my adventures with busses to some friends, and I'm finding I have lot's of gaps in the old memory. course, maybe it's just me. :-)

Welcome, Matthew.
Your trip is fairly typical.

Be sure to check the studs very carefully as there is likely to be damage from the loose wheel.

Good luck on the next (and hopefully final) leg of your trip.

Welcome Matt and a big congratulations on getting a 6! If you can you have to bring it too the spring fling in Hershey at the bus museum. Its usually first week of June. I would love to see it there. Good luck with the new rig.

Most of the studs were broken and I am replacing them all just to be safe and installing case hardened backing nuts for the studs I've been told that "soft nuts" cause the studs to come loose?

Hershey is just around the corner from me I'll be there.

...wise to re-torque the other wheels too; assume more than one wheel was removed in the 10 years it sat waiting for your attention.

..Always re-torque a truck tire after the first bit of driving since it was last changed.

. Generally improper torque is what starts the nut backing off, corrosion in the wrong places and fatigue "softening" of the steel can also do there part in a dangerous failure.

~ good to stop often for a walk around on old machines until you have blown the cob webs off and know it well. Assumption lead to much bigger surprise all to often; and not the 40 foot kind we so like. Have lots of bus fun amidst the effort, those sixes surely deserve the effort.

a sign of loose lug nuts is rust streaks coming out from wheel nuts, at least on front wheels
