Look to newer Gillig Phantoms-I believe they have hyd powered fans. Good Luck, TomC P.S.-next step-change to a single piece swing front door-you won't believe the difference in keeping the weather and noise out. |

Electric fans do work Mark (boomer)on this board has electric fans and drives a 45 ft Eagle with a Cummins engine all over the US and Mexico without problems. I don't think you could make the automotive type you buy in the 7/11 type auto parts work but his system works good luck |

Re. Luvrbus If you get serious about electric fans, go to a hot rod or speed shop. They can get you the coreect fan for your cfm, and are really reasonable. I use them on extreme duty RTV's and have been very pleased. |

Transits are/have been using lots of hydraulic fans for long enough that they should be into the scrap stream now. Another source is out of various construction equipment. If not in the logging areas of BC, then the oil patch next door in Alberta should yield lots of interesting scrap yards. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Grant; I use electric fans whenever I can. They are more reliable than others as to breaking down and not running fast enough when low speed is cannot circulate enough air to keep things cool. Just for thought make sure of the rotation?? If it is pulling in,there must be ample room to remove the heated air. If your is pushing to the outside it will not cool enough at all. You will be pulling the heat off the engine and thru the radiator and that will not work. just my thoughts on the matter. Gomer |

The usual belt drive is a pain to engineer and mfg , but probably #1 for reliability and efficiency. Easy to trouble shoot too! FF |

Some Prevos use a belt driven side mount fan, that may be another place to look. |

Mid 80's Thomas school buses used the Cat 3208 and had a mechanical fan that is simple and would be easy to retro fit into most apps. Likely matches your crank pulleys and 90's to a driveline that could be shortened or lengthened for most any bus. |

hey all.thanks for the great replies. sorry about taking so long to respond but i actually lost the website for a while.*was sure there was an "s" at the end of busnut. oh well. solved my problem by fabbing a pully system very close to timb's photo. problem solved. fyi. the electric setup i purchased from a well known cooling system expert was a dual fan with shroud setup that purportedly moved huge amounts of air, wouldnt even come close to cooling the bus. i added a second radiator and a second electric fan, and it still overheated on the long hills. fabbed up a way to reinstall the original fan and it runs like a top. thanks again. grant |
