If you have a tech, what does it read at 70MPH cruising? What tranny/engine combo?

Geoff sugested that 8V71DD get too thirsty over 1950 RPM , so I took his advice.

4106 with stock rear will run at 73 ,
with "mountain gears" (4905 set) installed she runs at 68 ,At 1950.

Fuel milage is almost the same ( low to ,mid 9's)& its even easier to hill climb with less slowdown , & never a sign of overheating.

But I do keep the coach light &
the Catskills , Apalacians & Eastern Launrentians are no match for the Rockies!

That's right, I found my fuel milage was better if I kept the rpms at 1950 or below, so I set my cruise at 1950 rpms on long runs which actually puts me a little below 70 on my speedometer.

2400 at 85. I'm gettin an new rear end soon so it will run 1850 or so at 70. Lower rpm means better mileage (well, a tiny bit in theory) and that puts crusing right smack in the middle of the popwer curve where it oughta be...

Stock 4106: 8V71 with N60 injectors set for 1900 rpm max; 4-spd Spicer; 0.808:1 bevel gearset; 4.125:1 rear axle; 12R22.5 tires turning 491 revs per mile. This combination gives me 72 mph max. Usually cruise about 1700, which is just under 65, per Daris' calculator.

(Have to drive by the tach, as I gave Fast Fred my old tachograph/speedometer unit and I haven't installed a new one yet. . .)

Jerry Russell runs his S-60 Eagle, slightly over the peak torque so when he "starts" a hill he falls back into peak torque.

On a long distance trip, crusing 70 he saw something like 9+ MPG if I remember correctly!
