“Internet Cyber Bullying” I know this thread will probably be lengthy & probably be looked at in different views and it may be deleted by some of the boards. That is the price I will pay for posting it, but I feel many of us on these great boards have legitimate contributors that feel that they have no voice & their ideas and suggestions cannot be heard because of the threat in their minds of being verbally accosted by a darn ole Internet Bully. This has happened so many times in the past on all bb’d. I do know that on the Eagles International Bulletin Board cyber bullying is not tolerated in the least no matter how fancy the wording is done. No one more than I know of that feeling when you get someone on your back and they wait till you post and they can’t wait to just humiliate or embarrass you or what ever the reason they try to intimidate you. Sometimes those being bullied try to come back with the power of internet words to fight back, defend themselves or attempt to put the bully in his / her place and hope that is the end of it. Bullies usually stay on the slippery slope of bb’d guide lines and use language just about that of getting reprimanded in one way or other by moderators of the board that the bullying takes place on. Anyone being Cyber Bullied & reaching a saturation point of Bullying by an individual or his followers will get discouraged and pull back normally especially if THEIR rebuttal or comments sent back are deleted for one reason or other. If the victim does not defend himself publically the victim being bullied then sometimes has to see derogatory comments left by a Internet Bully. These comments which are sometimes left posted on the bb’d because the comments made were (double talking / meaning within the boundaries of the bb’d format) for all to interpret any way they wish. But the harm has been done and those on the receiving or victims end feel foolish or embarrassed & disrespected and ashamed to come down to the bullies level for a short time. Internet Bullies are sometimes encouraged to make the comments that they do by a following crowd. I have observed this many times on these boards and this of coarse keeps the bully in control of his victims. The crowd following he has encourages makes him to flame someone even more as he believe what he says is a representation of his followers and he has the power to make any comments he want to, fully supported by his followers. I don’t make bullying comments to absolutely anyone on the attacking mode. Life is way to short and enjoyable & I have many friends like I do now on the boards and at all rallies we attend. I have tried to defend my self at times on the bb’ds and as my comments were sometimes deleted then my anger just festered even more. I felt my honesty to try to stop this crap allowed by the bully to humiliate me just within boundaries of any bb’d forum. Now unless you have never been the victim of an Internet Bully you can not appreciate what I am telling you. This subject has even been discussed on TV lately and should be realized it is not necessary to allow happening. This is my personal interpretation of a “Internet Bully” in action: He is sitting in his little secret hole where his computer is. He is either in his shorts or butt naked so that as he tries to type his comments just to piss off someone he does not like he can at times look down to see how big his testicles have grown in the excitement!! I guess you would call them Gonads!! His adrenalin is just flowing at the thought of pissing off one of those that do not want him in their lives. He feels he has taken the victims power away with just words. He is hiding behind his computer many, many miles away and not having to have eye ball to eye ball facial confrontation that may solve any issues between the bully and the victim – s.. So, the Internet Bully schemes to keep the victims continually upset or discourages him or them from posting on any of the bulletin boards. This means that the Internet Bully has taken control of the victim’s rights to ask questions, make comments, or suggestions on any one of the bulletin boards. As I stated above I do not in any way Bully absolutely anyone and refuse to allow anyone from here on out to take my power away again. You can depend upon us meeting face to face to resolve any future Internet Bullying to me or friends of mine or anyone I know on these boards. It is uncalled for, and no matter if you have the intelligence to use words to bully within bulletin board formats you have no right to insult, humiliate or embarrass me again or those friends of mine that love this hobby as I do. You do not have the right to make derogatory statements about any friends of mine personal business that they make a living from; you are opening the door here to a legal issue that may bite you financially. These bulletin boards are a wonderful tool for us to enjoy, many bulletin members have been chased away or now just lurk and do not comment to stay out of the lime light of the Internet Bully, just waiting to allow some Cyber bully & his Gonads to talk through his computer in his private little hole. I hope this thread is not deleted, I know many feel as I and would not even come to the level of posting this but I no longer will let someone make a comment on my bulletin board threads intimidating, insulting or humiliating me again. Count on it. We will resolve this problem of theirs, man to man and then I will continue to my enjoyment of the rally or meeting place we are at with friends that do respect me as I do them. I feel this information important enough to be posted on all 3 bulletin boards I frequent and hope that those victims from the past no longer will sit in front of their computer just knowing that some naked Internet Bully can and does post derogatory comments against any of you any longer. Hey Gary I appreciate the stand you are taking and don't think it inappropriate to bring up this issue even here on one of the friendliest boards that I have ever experienced. I don't think that any of the posters either frequent or sporadic have put forth anything that I would have considered as bullying here. Yes there have been a few heated discussions and it is possible that some have personal relationship differences that from time to time have surfaced here but the few have kept it very directed and was not in general what might be construed as bullying. That being said it makes me wonder as to what IS bullying and what is maybe banter between people who are comfortable enough with each other to say some things that you wouldn't say to a stranger. I agree with your vision of these bullies! They are cowards who have low self esteem, who hide behind a key board and spew malicious crap at anyone that they can. Not the banter that we often see here. I can tell from your post that this is something that has effected you directly and that you feel very strongly about it. I do not in any way dismiss how you were made to feel by this! But I don't know you and don't know what would make you have such a strong reaction. I think it only fair that you also explain, if you can, exactly what it was that prompted you to make this post. As one of the guys on this board who from time to time will take a friendly poke at one of the guys, I truly hope that it is not this sort of thing that you are referring. If I have offended you in any way I am sorry. If not, I don't want to sit here and feel somewhat guilty for something offensive to you that I wasn't aware of. Les | ||

This is a clean board, I'm on hear at least reading every day. I have not found any bullying here. I feel your feelings are probably from other boards and you may be just sending your frustrations to all boards you know of. I wish you the best and assure you that this board will police itself. My post on this Bullying issue was posted on all 3 boards I frequent and have for many years now. Well the Eagles International has been around only about two years. The reason I posted on all three is there has been several instances in the past even probaby before you were a member. I am not sure of your longivity on these boards. If you did not see some the actions that took place and the results then you overlooked them. I do not intend to bring a specific situation to light as there is many that built up not just to me but many friends I have and those I respect and do not see on the board any longer. This board in particular is not the only board I posted this message on so don't take it as an insult to this board. It has happened here and most times absolutely controlled. But as explained on one of the other boards about this is that some bullies interject their sarcasm and unnecessary comments about one of our bulletin board members post. Friendly digs is just that between friends. Purposely humiliating, insulting or degrading a board member for his comments or his business sense is not something in this catagory when you are not friends and you don't wish to be friends in any way with a particular person. Again I don't mess with anyones mind on these boards, for any reason at any time. If you do not have any of these problems with any members on any of these boards then you have no reason to take offense. you also do not have any stress or problems because of unwanted or unwaranted verbal abuse of any kind. What I have been told by a few even on this board but more importantly by a parent, "If you can't speak good of a person then don't speak at all". I try to do this, I try to disreguard comments made but mr. man, I am not made of stone. I am not just speaking for me here, my comments are a collections of information recently brought to my attention as well as my personal involvement and I decided enough is enough. No one for any reason deserves intimidation done on purpose. Now busting for fun, is altogether different. Even Steve Wonder can see when something is serious or not or intentionally deviously injected by the power of words. I hope no one on this board feels I am centering on this board for any personal attention pertaining only to me concerning this. My intention is to prevent anyone from doing it to anyone again and think twice in the future before doing it to anyone. Treat everyone with Kindness, showing me you have big Gonads with your negativity on anyones post sure isn't cutting it any more. I hope I have respectfully answered your comment on this thread and you also can see my point as well. I wish for everyone, those that haven't posted in months, years because of previous situations that sometimes moderators had to take control of to be sure they come back, post with all of us and share their information like they did before leaving. Again Gary I agree that there is no room on this or any board for bullying However again you leave the rest of us in a quandary over what it is that has so offended you. I can understand if you don't want to get into specific details.. Name names and such but by making the post that you have has left the shadow of suspicion on all of us. When George and I pick on Jack Fids is that bullying? When jack comes back at us with one of his long rants that seem to zing everyone is that the problem? Or is there some posts that we have missed that are the offenders. I am only asking to make a point too. That point is when you splash a pail of paint, some of it is going to get on stuff that you didn't intend it to. When you post that you have been offended by action unspecified it turns everyone into a suspect. Again I don't intend in any way to diminish the validity of what brought you to this point of having to make your post and declaration but the rest of us don't want the paint splashed on us. | ||

Besides, it's kinda fun 'listening' to some of these guys go at  . Hey, I've been walloped a few times (probably deserved it) but who cares? My thinking? These boards will grow you a thicker skin. I mean, 'Sticks and stones...' I'm probably the dumbest person on this whole board and still kindly indulged. I agree mostly with Gary. I have quietly lurked (and very rarely post) on this and the other board for 6 years building my bus because of just what Gary said. I don't know that I would call it bullying but for me it was insultating, degrading, unncecessary comments made to posts that I made. I was asking for help not inappropriate remarks. No, I would not consider fun intentional banter a problem. Most of the time you can tell the difference but sometimes not. Posting to BB's is a flat media and sometimes emotion does not come through as intended. Now, it was mentioned that these kind of posts help "build you a thicker skin". My question, why is that even necessary? If the comment had not been made in the first place then there would not have been a need for "thicker skin". Second question, who gave the right to the offending poster to "build a thicker skin" on another poster? Finally, this comment "And if someone runs for cover over a little verbal dress-down, what must the rest of their life be like? I personally think (my opinion) comments like this are inappropriate and are the kind of comments, if it were directed at me or another poster, which it wasn't, would be exactly what I see as Gary's point. I find this comment "Don't give up on boards because of some off color comments by a few misguided people" as a tacit admission that just what Gary is poiting out does in fact happen. I have no intention of offending anyone but I risk pointing out these comments to show how easily a person can fall into making comments that create the situation Gary is pointing out. I won't even venture a guess as to why people make the inappropriate comments they sometimes do but I can tell you, it has and does afftect the quality of the board because some members choose to lurk or leave rather than share the wealth of information they have. Not relevant to this board....hmmmm. Can't say that I have experienced ANY board that is immune to polishing. As I reflect on some of my postings over many years, I wonder if I am not due a "dress down"...chastisement, rebuke...whatever one might choose to call it. Frankly, this is the only board (thanx much, Ian!!) that I regularly visit....because of the "demeanor"...."tenor"....intent???... expressed and, indeed carefully (apparently) monitored here. As Gomer noted a while back on another thread, I fear some have "left us"; maybe because of "incivility", "decorum" or lack thereof, "thin skin" (hurt feelings) or whatever. I, for one, miss many of them. Full of knowledge, helpful "stuff", ideas, experience and invaluable "food-for-thought". Sadly, some have passed on. For the most part, the folks that have been 'round on this board since I started this crazy "hobby" 10 years ago are spot on in approach..., answering questions, making suggestions and offering FREE (helpful advice. The kind of folks one likes to say are friends!! My hat is off to each and every one of them. And what a wonderful and great time I have had day by day, making our conversion a thing of joy. I would not ever visit the Escapees board as that board has a group of "stealth" cyber bullies with one side moderation. That is the nastiest bunch of folks you will find. There is a core group that will drive you nuts as they seem to dig up expertise on every issue that comes up, and your opinion is wrong. | ||

Gary, I mostly agree with your post, but like Nellie said "these boards will grow you a thicker skin." Unlike real life where bullies often can't be avoided, the beauty of the CYBER world is that you can just BACK AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER FOR A WHILE!!!. I don't think the technology is good enough yet for a CYBER BULLY to use the electrons flowing through your computer to activate a traction beam that forces your eyes to stay focused on the computer while your mouse cord wraps around you and squeezes your breath from you!! Thanks George. Frankly my conscience is clear . I still hate to have everyone tarnished by a blanket accusation. This is the same thing as saying that all------- are racist or lazy or cheat on their spouses. I think Gary has a beef with someone or with a small group of people that have done him and others wrong. Instead of calling them out and dealing directly with the issue, we all seem to stand as guilty until proven innocent. Gary. Again I in no way want to dismiss what you feel or have experienced. I agree that it is serious! I don't think that the mode that you have chosen to try to come to grips with this issue was appropriate. NOT that you brought it to this board. Just the way that you presented the issue. I would support you to the best of my ability to enjoy this or any board without the threat of being scorned or ridiculed by others but also can't stand idle while undirected accusations are being thrown about. Les & Steve, I think you are taking my post real personal and have no idea why? I don't even know who you both are to be honest. Have I ever met you, have I ever made any contact with you on or off the boards? My thread post is intended to invite those that have abandoned our board forum to post for all the enjoy or use in their life or conversion. Now you are taking it personal and this is not a blanket post involving every one, those involved and that it concerns all know who they are. Again, I have no idea who you are. I can see you are a little more educated than I with your wording but if you are offended personally with my post and replies I will publically apologize to you now. This does not involve you, unless you are in the receiving end one day. I hope not, your opinion will be different if so. Now to dismiss comments made on a post and back away from the computer does not work at times when a person does make a post or thread ledgitimately for a reason for some kind of information. This can be done by the Harasser, Internet Bully or what ever you want to call him, then immediately that post is dead as no one wants to get involved an exchange of words between two people who obviously do not click. This is probably more called Harassment but not being as educated as some here I am not sure of the term you wish used, Bully, Harasser or what. My apology goes to any one one this bulletin board that feels the same as Les & Steve. There should be no question as to what I am saying and I am not throwing a can of paint to splatter on you all. But I do hope if an apology will smooth the feelings out of those on this bulletin board that feel offended by my post then again I personally apologize to you all. Comments that twist or misinterpit my post meaning will surely make others just sit back like Steve mentioned and let it ride. No way do they want to get involved. Everyone is a different size person sitting in front of their computer. I will have a face to face confratation as needed in my particular situation such as this, my intention again, is to prevent it from happening to anyone else in the near future. If it is, just consider coping and pasting all these comments & email to the person doing the harassing or bullying. Most of us live miles apart and it is impossible to be face to face but when the opportunity comes it needs to be done. That is what I intend to do and should have long ago and when I say "Take Back Your Power" is what I mean to do. Now don't take that and twist it to mean anything else. If I need to have a face to face meeting and I do, then I will from here on out is all this post means. But I will also not tolerate friends being critized or harrased when I know that is what is being done. Les please let this go and let those that do want to come back and post and realize that there is a check and balance system for situations such as what I posted that happen then I am sure moderators will do their job. Ian has done that many times in the past on this board and even deleted some of my thread comments. I had it coming after I realized what I had done. Please don't keep this thread sounding like I am making a blanket accusations and that everyone is a harrasser or bully. That is not the case and I can do no more than ask this of you. Some people I personally know feel it is a relief to be talked about but as of now they will refrain from saying so in a public forum such as this bb'd. A few have and that is what is important to me. Everyone come back on board, never mind letting harrasement intimidate you. If so, report it, let the moderators do their job. I can't say any more than what I have to comfort you in knowing my comments are only meant to those that have been concerned and involved in harrasement / bullying situations. There is too many nice people here that do know me and what I stand for and respect me for that. I hope I am no longer mis-interpeted in my post by anyone in the future, I make many post and as mentioned in one way or other, if my post intimidate or offend others, then maybe they should not read or comment on my informtion. I do not read post of those that do not interest me or I no longer want them or anything to do with them any place in my life. I can only hope that those being offended by me can do that as well. I am no better or higher or more important than anyone else on these boards. Getting a thicker skin is not an answer either, I have seen very important influential busnuts here lose their cool in one way or other at times and I fully understand how that can happen. Everyone, I mean everyone has a breaking point that makes them feel cornered and I am expressing this information not just for me but for those I do know feel exactly as me. My turn.... I logged on unto the net in 1991. It was a lonely place lacking a whole lot of information & it was populated by people who had a sense of common ground...they had all worked in some aspect of the Digital World & for the most part they were enthusiasts whose goal was to see that the rest of the world was enjoying & had access to the new system of communication & information. With rare exception, it was a "All for one & one for all" atmosphere whose roots in Science, Technology & education were obvious & welcomed. That highly educated original base group was diluted as people with more money than education bought computers & thus their own ticket to the WWW. The civility of the Web digressed proportional to the declining price of equipment...the cheaper computers became the more hostility rose. Those who BOUGHT their way onto the Net had an entirely different motivation from those who established the framework for public usage. Civility was never an issue in the early '90's but by 1995 it was starting to take a back seat to those people who demanded something for nothing and a few special groups of people who until this time had remained out of the mainstream. One of those groups was people who posses a "Sniper" mentality, another was the group who adhere to the false premise of, " IF I can formulate an opinion, it is as valid as any other because all people equal & therefore their idea's are equal as well." and finally there are those who seem devoid of the human response of embarrassment, shame or guilt, they thrive on the anonymity that the Net provides & they use it to de-value the experience of usage to that which they are used to in life, the lowest common denominator. Frankly...... this little construct of Ian's is an island of sanity in an otherwise polluted sea of Cyber Scum...!! We all seem to be members of a group of people who have a similar vision, aspiration, desire & therefore we recognize that we are all in the same boat to one degree or another..... we have RESPECT for one another & it is born out of the fact that we all are basically alike ! At the top of this BBS, Ian states at least a partial purpose for being at this URL... "ask a question, express an opinion, connect a viewer to your preferred product"... I assume it was inadvertent that he failed to list...Make a new friend & have a good time, which have proven to be 2 other valid reasons for usage as well. People receive a good feeling when they help one another, it is a higher quality of emotion than assuming a superior position is. Offering help w/o expectation, other than to be a "helper" to someone else on down the road of life, rewards the giver twice, knowing help has been rendered & that it will be extended by the "helped" to someone in need in the future.... passing the GOOD along to the next person. The "Cyber-Bullies" only want to see other people suffer as much as the bully does internally, it's that "EQUALITY" thing rearing it's ugly head in place of common sense, civility & sanity. Instead of feeling the potential good they want everyone to feel as bad as they imagine they can make them feel, the worse an adversary feels the better you feel by comparison.....but not in reality....a fact that limited/chaotic minds cannot comprehend. There is also a growing group of people who scour the web seeking any tib-bit that THEY can turn into "disingenuous umbrage or injury". They find insult, humiliation or embarrassment in either the words that are printed or those that they THINK are printed on the page before them.... They see what they want to see & read words that are not there, and they take OFFENSE & then demand apology or banishment. They like to be the victim. For their lack of understanding they demand that everyone's conversation be homogenized into oatmeal that cannot under any circumstances be offensive to ANY one. Honestly, I have no time for those who take offense when I scratch my nose & then accuse me of picking it in public... these are the ones who need to learn tolerance. I know there is at least one person on this forum who bristles whenever I hardass Moe, Larry & Curly, take a swipe at Les or cloud the chrome on Dave's Dome..... they feel the need to "protect" my friends from me & yet they understand not one iota of our relationship! But they feel the irresistible urge to insert themselves into our relationship. I am responsible for the words I write here BUT I am not responsible for they way in which some interpret those words to suit their agenda. I came here to LEARN, help & to be with people who share a similar goal of attaining a type of FREEDOM that few in this world can allow themselves and who fewer will ever experience. The way I deal with Bullies is the best way.... IGNORE THEM, don't respond to them or about them.... just turn off the response entirely and they lose interest when they are not the center of attention.... they go away when they get NO RESPONSE. Remember CONTROL is their highest priority & w/o any they go flaccid. The alternative is something we are going to see in the near future.... Internet Licensing... no more anonymous postings or usage. When that day arrives, the ones who will protest the most are the ones who have created it by their own actions. The bottom line here is this..... I have yet to witness a single act of cyber bullying here & I doubt it would be tolerated if there was one..... I have two experiences in life that come to mind. The first is when I was in jr. high school, about 40K years ago when bullying was just part of life. I had a classmate who would ALWAYS rise & respond to teasing. It was incredibly easy to get him to chase someone around the school with just a bit of verbal prodding. He NEVER wised up while the other kids & I figured out that the best way to deal was "Never let them get your goat". You might be ticked off internally but if you feigned indifference, the teasers or bullies soon bored of the game & went elsewhere. (By the way, we never called verbal teasing "bullying".) The bullies were the larger kids that beat the crap out of you for your measly $.75 cents of lunch money. Or for no discernable reason other than they didn't like you. We learned to run faster & look down streets before going that way. The second experience was when I was about 18 and was riding around with a friend. We parked his car with the windows down & went on on foot. When we returned, someone had thrown a milkshake into his car, soaking the front seat & carpet. So to exact revenge, my friend went out & bought a shake & found a car to throw it into, which he did. The car did not belong to the first thrower, it was more than a mile away, but my friend felt that the score was even. I think this was an example of wanting someone else (didn't matter who) to feel as bad as he did. A different friend who lives on a Caribbean island has a motto which fits as well on this BB as down there. "We're all here 'cause we're not all there". | ||

I just woke up whay da I Mis," Marvin". Ah OH Ian showed up (talk about a stocker,you'd think he owned the place,LOL)who got in trouble this time, you bunch of knuckle heads. Least it wasn't me this time,LOL was it Gomer? Actually changed my Silicon hoses on my Bus yesterday. That green stuff just kept pouring out into a blowup pool I put under it. When I was finished with the 5C (MCI BUS, for George and Les)I turned around and some green stuff was dripping out of my S-10 I thought how did that happen the bus in 20 feet away. Well it must of been feeling neglected, so it threw its water pump out. I changed that too and gave it new green blood also. Some days ya know. Their just so temperamental. Next my truck will be writing "some long post" about how I don't understand it and never drive it anymore, Wa,Wa,Wa Sorry I can't make this as long a post as Uh Ummmm others, my keyboard has some bad spots!!! That may appear to be the case here.... But I'll bet a buck that a lot of people reading this are missing most of "the fun".... it's all in how you look at it..... I venture to guess that quite a few will return to this thread over time for one reason or another. So far , this year, this thread has more action than any other thread the next closest are, one about Busnut E-mail (79) & one entitled Stupid Door(80). Oh I am so sorry I won't be here for the 100th post celebration on BNO of this thread. I will say you did much to discourage newbees from being contributing members of this bb'd. In fact you did as I figured and am so dissapointed to think I was right. I am really disapointed that this thread has been allowed to go on like it has and the levels it achieved. Now if you really all want to have a cake and ice cream celebration here is some good news to some of you who do not know me personally and real good news to a few that do. This is where I take my "Power" back. I will no longer post, contribute in any way on this BNO for any reason ever again. you will see that I am a man of my word. You see, some good did come out of this and you should all be proud. Uh Save that would have been me that used the butts an gals over at bcm but to be honest, this is how that happened. I was using my smart phone (htc evo) and I have the freedom of using what is called "swype". Thats where I dont type each letter on the keyboard. I just slide my index finger from letter to letter. Where I went wrong was by not proof reading my reply. When I did see what transpired, I laughed and said ohhhhhhh well, it will fit somewhere. Now you know the whole truth nothing but the truth. Take a hike...!!! BACK to the ARCHIVES..... You will find Old Fids has been here long ago only then, a lot of people THOUGHT I was a CHIROPRACTOR.... of all the weird ideas. Now THAT was funny! Seriously, a decade ago I used to post under the Moniker of O.A.E.Palmer It was a way to kick my Brothers azz for being slow to become a member here..... because OAE PALMER was his Handle on several other URL's. & he had just bought his 1st FLX & was going to join. (all of you Whiners take notice....there ALMOST was 2 of ME here!) O A E Palmer stands for.. Old Antarctic Explorer & PALMER is the Science Station I worked out of for 2 of the 5 years I was involved the USAARP of NSF. If you have a mind to... feel free to saunter over here for a look at what it's all about. http://www.acull.com/PalmerStation/Palmer.htm The page is NOT mine nor am I anywhere to be seen in it... company guys are discouraged from being photographed but there are a lot of interesting items... that Sub pic caused no end of trouble in Langley be sure to scroll down the left side and click on the photo's... ..go far enough and you will find a photo of 2 Ships side by side in a Harbor..... the Red one is the BAS ship Bransfield... the tiny Green one is the USAARP Research Vessel HERO- R/V HERO. It was because of an incident involving Bransfield that the honorary title of Jack Fids was given to several of the Hero Crew. See below for a photo commemorating our little spot in the sunshine. NAW...he's counting from 10 as part of an exercise in Rehab for Web master's who've lost their minds due to the traffic on their site..... it's his way of avoiding "going Postal"..!
