I guess I am Number 3 (no number 4). The figure I have heard thrown around from several sources is about 5000 converted coaches in the USA. This includes all converted coaches, whether done by the owner or a company such as Marathon. No actual facts or sources to substaniate this. I always tell people its 2000, i dont know if i got that number from FMCA or bus conversions list. Maybe mike or jack knows how many subcribers. BUT i run arcoss bus nuts all the time who say they have no clue to this sight. For example our new place in Pa there is a Buffalo 5 miles from our house, never been on the web here and he knows of another GM possibly an 04 5 miles from him and if i hadent stopped by i wouldnt haveknown aboutthat one. So maybe 5000 is closer? Wives and significant sufferers of the disease should be counted also right? what about skoolies! |

I don't know how many registered users are on this site, but there are almost 2500 on the BCM BB (formerly MAK BB). Of course as mentioned, since many are on both BBs and some are only on one, and some are not on any, and some belong to FMCA and some don't, and some subscribe to Bus Conversions Magazine and some don't, it is very difficult to get an exact count. |

Several years ago, George Myers estimated about 3,000 based on FMCA numbers (which are declining, BTW), but I'm sure the hobby captures at least 1,000 more than that due mostly to the networking opportunities available through the internet. Viewers here, like BCM, don't necessarily register because most of the resources are viewable for free without doing so. Additionally, and again like BCM, I'm sure, I am amazed to see so many new viewers registering every day who have never heard of the hobby! So, with fewer FMCA members, the advent of the internet and its networking advantage and given the registrants coming on board day after day (and remember that Jack and I have access to usage statistics from our respective web sites), I'm going to guess that there might be something like 3,500 of us out there. Oh, but don't include me yet. I don't have a bus and I'm not nuts. Uh, ok, I'm nuts. But only slightly crazy! Ian www.busnut.com |

With the nature of this hobby being independent, self-sufficient, free thinking, and somewhat unorthodox... I can see there being lots of busnuts who will want to have nothing to do with any of us, or any other formal group. "Joining" just isn't going to be a trait for some who are drawn to this hobby/lifestyle. It will be quite difficult to measure those ones. A side note, I forgot to renew my FMCA last month, and the phone messages have started, politely wanting to know why not... I'll be renewing, but FMCA is in a heap of demographic trouble. They are firmly stuck in some place that parents/grandparents reside, who are dying off, and is not attractive to the boomers and younger. happy coaching! buswarrior |

There is a very simple equation for figuring this out.... The number of Bus Nuts is equal to the number of Registered Buses squared minus the number of Comercial Registered Buses devided by 2.... BN=(RB squared)-(CRB/2) . |

... perhaps know where near enough- to justify the tax man from going any further into the feasibility study to see if bus nuts form a large enough pool for special "parasitic consideration". ~ But hopefully enough to meet the survival needs of these sensibly designed effigies of human collective effort. |

FWIW....while driving between Chicago & Phoenix on a straight thru run of 28 hrs. I counted on average 7 Buses/class"A" Mtrhms. per hour on the road with me. This happened in late September, when everyone is scurrying from the cold weather about to overcome them granted. As I recall a friend got the total number of US Freeway miles and extrapolated that at ANY given time there are almost a quarter of a million "big rigs" on the road. If each unit contain 2 people that would make 1/2 a million on the road! |

"Class A Mtrhms" are definitely not in the same category.....far as I am concerned....BTDT! Sorta' like calling a VW Bus a "motorhome"...or a skiff a sloop.....or......et al. FWIW RCB (Message edited by Chuckllb on March 03, 2010) |
