A guy at my favorite bus garage suggested that insted of trying to repair the leaking air beams on the rear of my bus to bypass them and use a couple of air tanks of roughly the same capacity and remotely install them and just use some extra Tees and air line to connect it all together. Will this idea work? Will it give me back a more softer ride? |

Yes, it will work and many have done it |

My question is how big is the orifice between the air beams and each bag in the orignial setup? In order for the air tanks to work with the air bags you would need to make the air connection as large as possible for the air to travel quickly between the two, otherwise you gain nothing. --Geoff |

Geoff: The orifice in the plate that the bag mounts to on a MCI is about three inches. |

The orifice in the block-plate that would have to be installed to eliminate the air beam has an orifice of about 1/8" to 3/32". I don't think you could move enough air through this opening to gain any softer ride. Jack |

The air can't flow fast enough to be of any use. If you can't get the ride you want with plated, convoluted air bags, you have the option of going to rolling lobe bags. Kits are available from Mohawk. This was GM's solution for 4106 and newer. Jim Stacy |

Just a word on what I have found thru playing with trucks and a... er...drivers posteriors and "ride". I had done everything from bags to regulators to leveling valves to tire pressure to shocks to ride highth even 4 bag systems! SHOCKS...yep every time! After going to a seminare (sure I would learn nothin)" Yada yada unsprung weight yada yada sprung weight" ! Then "he" did something cool with a "chrome" demonstrator and glass of water and a real pertty fully ajustable shock. Bottom line was something about "compression dynamics". No crass comercial message here but the name rymed with Bilstien. Smoke,rattel&,stink....docdezl |

We are half way through inserting a full liner in the rear beams of the old Courier 96. Seems to be a much simpler and inexpensive job than one would think. Nominal reduction in air capacity and stronger than ever. Will post more detail when the pressure test is done. |
