What tire monitor systems do folks here use? I'd like to have one that monitors pressure and temperature and mount on the dash. Does the temperature monitor require a sensor inside the tire? What systems would be a good choice? Thanks! |

The system that I am familiar with that monitors temp as well as pressure is the Smart Tire system. That system requires removing the tire to install the sensor on the wheel. We use the PressurePro on our coach and toad. The sensors replace the OEM valve cap on each wheel and the monitor panel attaches to the dash. This system monitors pressure only. If towing our golf cart trailer, we remove the sensors from the front wheels of our toad and install them on the trailer. If doing a day trip in out toad, the monitor is easily removed from the dash and installed in the toad. Just "our way", YMMV Jack PS: we purchased our system from fellow busnut Jim Shepherd |

It sounds like the Smart Tire system is what I want. Does Jim Shepherd sells these? How would I contact Jim? |

The Tire Safe Guard system will monitor temps without removing the tire about the same in price as PressurePro good luck |

The Smart tire system is, as has been mentioned, installed inside the tire on the dropped center part of the rim. Being inside the tire, it can measure the temperature INSIDE the tire. Tire Safe Guard (and others) are stem mounted. I can't see how they can measure a meaningful tire temperature. I am not a huge believer in temperature as a good indicator of tire pressure. The temperature will not start to increase significantly until the tire has deflated beyond acceptable limits (perhaps 25%). It is at that point the tire is flexing significantly more than it was designed to do and that is causing damage to the carcass. I do not sell Smart Tire. As I recall, they were in financial trouble and were recently bought by Bendix. Have not seen them at trade shows recently. Jim |

We have Presure-Pro and it has been fine. Now that the batteries in the sensors are wearing out I am looking around much has come along since we bought them 6 years ago. Here is something new that can be used in addition to tire sensors or in place of them. www.tattle-trail.com |
