OK, Well I Know Some Probabaly Think Im Crazy. And Well Maybe I Am. But, I Gotta Tell You This......I Love Old Iron.. The Bigger The Iron The Better !!!! This Past Weekend My Wife, Son And I Drove From Denver To Roundup Montana To Pick-Up A 1954 Crown Bus. 1 Of 2 Sold To The Railroad There. This Is What I Was Told And Thats All I Know So Far About The Histiry Of The Bus. The Crown Is Missing Its Original Seats And Overheads. Everything Else Is There. The Bus Has The Hall Scott 779 240 Horse With 5 Speed Manual. Overall Everything Looks Good And Seems To Be VERY Restorable. My Plan Is Just To Save The Bus From The Crusher. If I Wouldnt Have Went When I Did. The Bus Would Be At The Junk Yard Right Now. The Ride Home Was Uneventful And The Bus Is Here At My Shop Getting Ready For Another Pull 400 Miles East. Yes Thats Right !!!! I Flat Towed The Bus 650 Miles. ( Not As Bad As It Looks ) Please Believe Me. If The Tow Wasnt Safe I Wouldnt Have Done It. My Dodge Didnt Even Sweat And Also Stoped The Crown Good. My Son Was Behind The Wheel Of The Crown Helping Steer. But Only When We Got Diesel And Sharp Turns Like That. I Have Had A Few Shake There Heads At Me.And Maybe I Might Do The Same If It Wasnt Me ?? OK...Enough. I Made It !! All Was Safe And I Saved Another Bus !!! several companies have pickup trucks set up with air throttles and can rig the truck to the back of the bus, and push the bus home using the truck and a remote air throttle and air compressor providing brakes. |

Brings back memories of the Crown school bus I rode in to junior high school-it had the same wrap around windshield and dash board. It's rare to fine a "recliner" Crown with horizontal sliding windows, and fluted aluminum siding. A truly great find! Good Luck, TomC |

Slightly off topic but just slightly. Here is a Crown and a half. Don't know if I'd pull this one with my Ram PU thou LOL

Mr Breeze...I am about to get rid of several parallelogram slider windows that came from my 1964 Crown. 5 as I recall. If you have any interest contact me via email. Don't like to "throw" them because they are still very usable. FWIW RCB |

I Havent Ran The Bus Yet.( Only A Short Burst ) But, I Do Know The Carb Has Issues. I Can See JB Weld Around The Fuel Port. Another Carb Will More Than Likely Be Inorder. The PO Swears The Engine Is Good. ?? Even If It Isnt...I Still Love This Crown. Your Right Clifford.....Ive LOST It !!! All I Wanted To Do Was Save It From Being Crushed. I Can Keep It At My Farm And Drive It To Church...LOL !!! Windows !! YES.....I Have Several That Are Broke. Not Broke Out Just Cracked Real Bad. Replacements Would Be Great. Im Not Really Looking To Restore The Bus. But, Just Save It Till The Day When Im An Old Man. And When Some Young Guy Comes To See If Its For Sale.... I Can Say...NO !! LOL !! MrBreeze |

The Dashboard Is A Stewart Warner Unit. They Were Sold In The 40s & 50s Under The Name.. HOLLYWOOD From S/W. Very Popular In The Hot Rods Of The Time. I Also Love These Dash Units...This 54 Crown And Also My 1963 Embree Crown Has Them. The 54 Still Has Some Of The Original S/W Winged Gauges Present. !!. $$$$ On The Winged Ones. Is There A Place Here On This Site Where Other Crown Owners Have Pictures Of There Buses ??? Thanks JOHN |

If I didn't have my '85 Kenworth cabover to use for my truck conversion, I would have used a 40ft Crown and cut it off behind the driver's compartment like the guy above did. Then just install the same box I had made. But-I'm pleased at the progress with my truck. Needless to say, you won't see another like it. Good Luck, TomC |
