No one has answered my question. Please I need to know if the fuel tank has an evaporator system on it gmc rts II 1981. Gas got very low (may have run out completely) - bus starts but concerned to know if tank needs to be drained or whatever before I hit the road again. Thanks |

Robin I would have answered your question before but I didn't know what you were talking about. I can tell you the fuel tank has a vent on it, and it doesn't need to be drained unless you have water, dirt or algea accumulated in it. If you would have run of of diesel (not gas), it would not have started up without priming the engine. Running out of fuel and having to prime the fuel system in the bus is not an exprience you want to go through on the road, so always keep your tank as full as possible. |

Robin, One other thing to consider, if you ran out of fuel and your tank had sediment or water in the bottom (fuel floats over water) of the tank, you may have pulled the garbage into the fuel filters causing them to be plugged. It might be a good idea to change the primary and secondary fuel filters. It would be a good time to remove the tank (if you have it near empty) and do a good clean-out if your unit has many miles or age to it. This would also be a good chance to install a fuel guage while its out. John 4104 |

What is the electronic thing that is bolted right next to the deisel tank if it isnt an evaporator? Do you know? Also, do the fuel tanks have a drain on them...rts gmc 81 |

Robin, I'm not sure I understand what you are speaking of "What is the electronic thing that is bolted right next to the deisel tank..." I am not familiar with the RTS but a safe bet would be it is not an evaporator. You might have a fuel water seperator. Maybe you could give a shot at descriping it a little better so I can form a mental picture of it. Does it have hoses (pipeing) that goes from the tank to the "electronic thing" and then to the engine? Is there more than one wire connected to it? Is there a drain on the bottom of it, or a sight glass? Is there any Name or numbers on it? In answer to your question about a drain plug, yes, most all fuel tanks have a drain plug at or near the bottom. Look for a square-head pipe fitting. John 4104 |

Robin, The only electric gizmos that I know about in the fuel tank bay are the kneeling air solinoids in front of the tank. They have no connection to the fuel system. Donn '79 RTS |

Could it be an electric fuel pump or fuel filter with heating element? Or I wonder if it some leftover destination sign controller? Normally there is nothing but a fuel tank in a 40' RTS fuel tank bay, so it would have to be an add on. The kneeling valves Donn spoke of are in the first bay, which also houses the fuel tank on 35'ers (like Donn has). |
