Everyone to their own opinion, but just off the top of my head I can name u about 24 advantages of the Neoplan over the MCI but to sum them up I will leave it with the Neoplan being 14 yrs. newer, along with all the stuff in it. Now we let the fun begin. For me it would be an easy decision; The Neoplan, but then, I own one.

haha,

well, first you must consider what and how both coaches were engineered for.....
I would put any 40 year old properly maintaind GM/MCI/Courier etc against a 10 year old transit.

Second...how they were used.: Neoplans are generally used for Transit/comuter applicatiois...thus stop and go.......would you buy a 5 year old car that ahs 100,00 miles but lived it's whole life in NYC? Or A Deisel Mercedes that is 2-3 times as old with 200,000 miles that was only driven on a doctors family vacation.

they are entirely different beasts......

Lastly......Transit autorities Scrap or sell at scrap value neoplans when they are done in 10-15 years...... They often send RTS's off to be reconditioned.

Only bad side of the MC-7 would be a deminishing part availability for body and glass parts.

The Cityliner is not a transit, it's a touring coach. Neoplan makes both.

Well, since u say it is my turn and since u obviously don't know what bus your talking about try this. The Cityliner, Spaceliner, Jetliner are all touring coaches. Mine came equipped when originally built with full bathroom, kitchenette, 2 small card tables,and WET Bar and was so equipped when I took possession (all since removed). Does that sound like a transit to you? It also had a fully integrated audio and video system with one 17" tv and 4 aux. monitors, CD, VCR & DVD deck, an 8v92 DDECII, 5 spd. Allison, 3.47 rear end and it runs at least 85 mph since that what I run it up to across Wyoming when I brought it home from Chicago. Just to back it up, let's meet in Cheyenne with my bus and u bring the 77 MC8 (and it's 8v71 non turbo engine). Bring the title, I'll bring mine, 1st one to Salt Lake City gets both titles (I need the title to MCI so I can sell it to the scrapper.) Don't get me wrong, MCI makes a good bus, but there is no realistic comparison between a 77 MCI8 and a 91 Cityliner.

I am perfectly awarte that Neoplane makes highway coaches..... have been to both of their US facilities.....unfortunately the highway coaches are plagued by the same problems as the city coaches...but are saved the stop and go wear and tear.....

Now, if you bought and converted one from new....which I know of a few....I'm sure they are great...... but they do not hold up near as well as MCI/GM/Van Hool/Setra......

There is a good reason they have a very very small market share of highway coach sales......

I'm not saying you couldn't find a good one, but I'd bet a dollar or two it's in not so good shape.

Best bet is to have someone who knows buses look at both of them. I have inspected too many buses to count that were in sorry shape and then somebody goes and buys it......and is tickled pink with it...........

Not slamming anyones personal bus...... just looking at the feasability........ chances are you will find mechanics familiar with MCI's faster than those familiar with Neoplans.

On the other side....Neoplan does make a very smart looking bus...... way ahead of their time.....

I operated a Cityliner in a charter service. Excellent ride, superior a/c, retarder, Webasto, steering tag and does not lean like the MCI. Maintenance was low compareed to others. Big windows, panoramic view. I wish I had one.

The coaches were origonally designed with different chasis service life goals.

Most US Mfg want to attempt GM longevity and shoot for a chasis that could make 3,000,000+ miles.

The Euro coaches are designed for hauling tourists , while there nice & shiney NEW.

So the usefull commercial life is 3 years , in europe perhaps 300,000 miles , then scrapped for new with shiny paint & new smelling seats.

Estimated Euro coach designed service chasis life 500,000 miles (from Larry Planchno at NBT)

AS RV service is usually only -20,000 miles a year ,( and usually NOT with a disgruntled operator) there is a good chance you will be able to use a Euro for many many years.

I would go with the MCI , as at least it was designed for US style over the road service.
