can a jake be installed on a 2 stroke? If so , how does it work since a 2 stroke does not have overhead valves? |

If you have a DD 8v71 a simular detroit
it has valves,ive got an 8V71 with jakes and they work great.
These 2 strokes are nothing like a motorcycle
engine.

DD two strokes use the cylinders like many 2-strokes to bring in the air, but valves to exhaust it. Therefore a Jake works because it cuts down the exhaust and makes the engine act like a big air brake. |

Guess it kinda depends upon ones definition of a Jake and of a 2-stroke engine.
Years ago we used to ride observed trials and my old Sherpa T murdercycle had a one way compression...
...release screwed into the second spark plug hole in the top of the air cooled head.
The old 250 cc ring ding had no valves at all, and I used the compression release like...
...an engine brake since the brakes were soosss poor. Worked cool and sounded like a Jake too.
Actually, while Detroit 2-strokes are 2 strokes, they have either 2 or 4 valves for each...
... cylinder just like a 4 stroke, but they are all exhaust valves. Sounds kinda weird, but...

I have jakes on my 8V92 and they work, but not nearly as well as they work on a 4 stroke
