Welcome aboard bruce; I too am very new at this coach stuff and still in the early learning curve. Do what you want to do. In my case, the plan right now is to go with a diesel electric.... ....coach with no propane. Plan on extended drycamping kinda off road. Your needs may vary. Neat thing about this hobby/endeavor/fever is that.... ....you can set up your coach for exactly YOUR needs. Do it your way. Good luck. |

Hee hee, here is Henry and Gary again... Henry and Gary both have Crowns. Henry and Gary both LOVE their Crowns!! Henry hates propane- won't have a drop of it in his bus, and instead he likes giant battery banks and inverters... Gary went with 110 gallons of propane for all heating, cooking, the Fridge, and generating (a 7.5KW Onan propane powered genset), NO inverter (well, a tiny 100 watt one for the computer only) and a smallish battery bank for everything lighting-wise which all runs on 12 volts. Your Onan is extremely easy to convert to propane... no sense in having three fuels on board (unless your rig's motor is gasoline, then leave the Onan alone...) 120 volt alternators are expensive and in my mind not too good an idea, because who wants to run the bus engine just to cook a piece of toast! Not very practical. Actually a good 7-8KW genset costs less than a 5KW AC alternator.... But Henry and Gary both certainly agree, take in LOTS of opinions, process them for whatever they're worth, and then do whatever pleases you!!!! You have to live with your end result, not us!!! Welcome to an unending hobby!! Cheers Gary |
